What are the three recommendations for improving the privacy of your information? Here are some of the recommendations from our textbook. The first is to make sure the website in question is trustworthy. The privacy and other policies should be easy to find and clearly state what they will be doing with any information used. The second would be to reduce how much personal information you are putting out there. Even to the websites that you trust the most. The information you put out may just come back to harm you in the future. Thirdly, “users should be able to review their records and correct any inaccuracies” (Bidgoli, 2021, p. 86). Most platforms allow you to download this information. I believe Instagram is one who makes it very easy for us to do so. I’m sure every platform does this, but some are probably not as straight forward. The two commonly used technologies for data collection are cookies and log files. Explain these two technologies. Cookies – an HTML technology that is on the user’s device and that backs up the user’s data. For instance, this data could be your browsing activity. So, if you are looking up car parts on one website, another website might access your cookies and then show you ads that relate to that. (Create a Pro Website, 2019) Log Files – These are created by a web server for the users that visit a website. This could help aid in analytical data. Could also be used for comparing data against a user that may lie about how old they are to gain access to a dating app, for example. (Bidgoli, 2021) What are three recommendations for improving the privacy of email. At my job it is important for us to be cautious when sending out emails. We must also be careful of what people are sending us emails and if they are from the company or from outside the company. So, one tip for improving email privacy in this situation would be to use the corporate emails that we were given. Do not use personal emails. A good second would be for us to encrypt any sensitive information that we might send over email. Then the other person would be able to securely decrypt the email/document and access the information. As great as this sounds, I have only ever seen it used one time. Lastly, we should be careful to not respond to phishing or spam emails as they may carry malicious software or links within them. Not to mention, you may start to get even more emails form these sources. (Bidgoli, 2021, p. 88) Works Cited Bidgoli, H. (2021). MIS (10th ed.). Cengage Learning Publisher. Create a Pro Website.
