1 Needs Assessment and Group Proposal Overview A needs assessment measures unmet needs of your community or target population. Think about your project and focus your plans on gaps in services, resources, or service delivery. You will want to identify who you plan to interview and how you will gather the needed information to ensure your needs assessment is accurate and complete. Use full sentences and be clear, as this is your time to determine how you will narrow the focus of your project. Share the details of your intervention project with depth, detail, and clarity. Also, for this assignment your group will identify the macro issue you have chosen, and the population being served. You will include a statement and definition of the problem, citing statistics from research you have conducted. This will be in the form of in- text citations as well as a reference page. Remember: if the issue is not significant, why are we intervening? Significance does not mean high numbers. The issue may be significant in other ways. Communicate why it is important to address this issue. Directions Fully address the following questions for each part of the assignment. Only one member of the group will submit the Needs Assessment narrative to the Carmen drop box. Feedback and points will be given to the entire group. Needs Assessment: 1. Who is your community or target population? Include a statement and definition of the problem, citing information and statistics from research. Why is it important to address this problem; why is an intervention required? Be as specific as possible. 2. What are the unmet needs you are planning to address in your project? What need(s) will your project address? Also, what different ideas for intervention were considered? 3. What assets, resources or strengths does the target population or community already have in place? 4. How will you gather and use the information gathered about unmet needs? Identify at least 3 stakeholders, databases or community sites you plan to approach for information. 5. What are the gaps in services or unmet service delivery needs in the community? Will you use that information to prevent a concern or change an existing problematic condition?
2 Group Proposal 1. How will you build on the community assets? How can you partner with existing service providers? 2. What different ideas for intervention were considered? 3. How will you demonstrate in your presentation that your project/product will make needed changes? 4. What are the benefits to individuals, groups, and the larger community? Are there negative impacts to your target group if this intervention is not implemented? Timeline 1. What is your timeline for the completion of tasks? Plot out the work that you will complete in the remaining weeks of the semester. This section can be in bullet format as you will list the weeks chronologically and define the tasks to be accomplished each week.
