Name: Riley Brister Section: 602 Assignment 7 Forensic Lab Data 1. Insert a copy of your group’s agarose gel picture below. 2. Measure the distance (in cm) from the front edge of the well to the farthest edge of each band in each lane and enter the data in Table 3 below. 3. Using the size data you entered in Table 3, sort your bands into the STR genetic loci in Table 4 . If you have only one band in that size range, it means that individual was homozygous for that allele at that locus. If you have two bands in a size range, the individual is heterozygous for that locus with the associated sized alleles. If you have no bands, it likely means your DNA sample or the enzyme mix was compromised. 4. Examine the data in Table 4 . Based on the data, can you eliminate any classmates from being a suspect? Which lane is the most likely perpetrator? Why? 1
Name: Riley Brister Section: 602 Yes, you can eliminate classmates from being a suspect because their DNA does not match. Lane 5 is most likely the perpetrator. This is because their numbers are the closest to the ladder values 2
