Goal: Be able to respond to any business disruptions such as natural disasters and cyber-attacks. To incorporate an efficient Business Continuity Plan and effective Disaster Recovery Procedures. Primarily focus on continuing business operations and minimizing risk of stopping business operations for an extended time. Have IT services and solutions prepared and tested to ensure the security of Sifers-Grayson’s assets. Natural Disasters : One can only be so prepared to deal with mother nature and natural disasters. There are many unique scenarios one may have to imagine preparing for this type of situation. In an IT emergency, the priorities have always been to recover business functions in order to support the time-sensitive businesses. In a natural disaster, the main building may need to be evacuated which will halt all operations for the business. To counter this, the back-up plan will have to be in place to ensure the safety of the employees and to begin the recovery of operations for the business. The back-up plan will contain information of servers, computers and wireless devices that have been backed up regularly for this specific scenario. Security and safety procedures would have to be practiced ensuring all employees are safe and prepared for this type of scenario. Cyber Attack: Most online companies are aware of the dangers of cybercriminals and the threat they cause to daily operations. It is crucial for Sifers-Grayson, to have a plan if this scenario every arises. Recently, cyber attacks are becoming more sophisticated which entails the severity of protecting business. “That’s why it’s not enough to focus, as many enterprises do, on defending the digital perimeter with cybertechnologies such as intrusion detection and data-loss prevention. When determined adversaries such as hacktivists and organized criminal syndicates set their minds on finding a way inside, every organization with valuable digitized information is at risk of having its perimeter breached and its critical assets compromised.” (Bailey). Response plans are important to consider if breached by
hacktivists or a crime organization. Having a contingency plan will prevent loss of time for operations and poor decision making when in a response scenario. By preparing an effective contingency plan, Sifers-Grayson will be able to respond efficiently and effectively to any type of response scenario. Business Continuity Plans: A business continuity plan is crucial for Sifers-Grayson to ensure the business is able to overcome a natural disaster or cybersecurity attack. The company loses money for every minute operations are not available. With operations unable to function and no plan available, companies are reducing their profits and adding to the expenses to make up for the loss profit. The Continuity plan is crucial for businesses to ensure recovery and stability in an emergency. Having a specified group of personnel on this plan will make the recovery process even more effective. By having individuals set with specific tasks will reduce the recovery time and confusion when dealing with an emergency. Disaster Recovery Procedure: This procedure should be implemented in all companies. In any disaster, losing data and equipment is very much a possibility. Therefore, it would be beneficial to implement a recovery procedure and training regimen to better prepare the business for disaster. It is critical that all data and information to be backed up daily and as frequently as possible. “Data can be lost, corrupted, compromised or stolen through hardware failure, human error, hacking and malware. Loss or corruption of data could result in significant business disruption.” (Ready). To ensure any loss of data or operation time, enforcing training and daily backups will allow Sifers-Grayson to be prepared for any natural disaster. Conclusion: Implementing disaster recovery procedures and business continuity plans allows companies to feel reassured when dealing with nature or malicious hackers. By practicing effective security and safety measures, Sifers-Grayson can know they are well prepared for any type of emergency scenario.
