6-1 / 7-1 Discussion: Working with Tableau
In Module Six, write about your experience and thoughts on your Module Four assignment. Address the following in your initial post: Do you have any prior experience with data analysis or visualization? Hello class! Excited we have crossed the halfway point! In my current job as an MRO Buyer/Budget analysis, I use data analysis and visualization models in my day-to-day activity. Most of my data analysis or visualization experience has been with Microsoft Excel to calculate needed materials and calculate quarterly budget results. Microsoft Excel and Tableau have the same types of functionalities. However, learning how to sort and manipulate the headings are a lot different to me. I have not had the opportunity to learn how to import data from one sheet to another in excel. I use a basic sheet for most of my work. The Module Four assignment was very difficult for me. The first issue I had was trying to
log into the VDI system. Luckily, I tried the application in advance and was able to get guidance into logging into VDI correctly. It took a couple of days for the IT department to return my phone call with the process on how to log into the system properly. Once I understood the log in process, I was able to enter into the VDI system. With being very new to the Tableau system it was difficult to understand how to import the employee survey results. The assignment was very frustrating and after much anxiety I pulled
the weekly recording to see if it could help me through the VDI and Tableau process. After review of the recording, I was able to log into VDI successfully and download the needed information and continue through the project. I was not very good a saving the document, so I got to start the project over a couple of times. Each time was much easier than the last with the repetition. After using Tableau, I liked that you could move chunks of data at one time into the column and rows and see the graph instantly. With excel you have to type the data into columns and then decide the type of graph you would like to use. I thought sorting data was also easier in Tableau than Excel. You could use different types of sorting than excel also. It made it simple to pull out the correct information without manipulating other areas. I am not sure how I would have changed the visuals through Tableau. Once I figured out how to filter different areas of the data in Tableau it seemed pretty simple to navigate to the information I needed to pull out for the assignment. I would have changed colors in my graph if I
could have figured it out in Tableau. Other than that aspect I think the information filter very well for the project. Question 1: Which gender is experiencing the burnout level “Pretty wiped out almost every
day” most?
Question 2: Which male age group is experiencing the stress level, “A little stress that would be expected with the ups and downs of life” at home the most?
Question 3: Which leadership level “strongly agrees” with the fact that they love what they do?
Question 4: Which gender with a tenure of 5+ years had the lowest number of responses for the burnout level “I feel great! Energy to spare!”?
