Ashley Tinsley Assignment Unit 7: Mia wants to know how you can tell if the new selection system is working. Specifically, what metric(s) would you use to evaluate the selection system? Provide rationale for your choice. “Staffing systems involve complex processes and decisions that require organizational direction, coordination, and evaluation” (Judge et, al, 2021, pg. 288). When implementing a new selection system, it is crucial to know if it is working and producing the anticipated results. There are metrics that can be tracked to determine if the new selection system is working. “These methods for analyzing the results of the staffing process are compared to gauge the effectiveness of staffing systems” (Judge et al, 2021, pg. 288). If a staffing selection method is not properly pairing candidates with a job that they are compatible with or producing employees that have a high turnover rate it may not be the most beneficial selection method to use. “The staffing process establishes and governs the flow of employees into, within, and out of the organization” (Judge et al, 2021, pg.293). The metrics to evaluate the selection system would be productivity, quality of work and retention rate. Productivity should measure the quality of work new hires are performing compared to veteran employees. Productivity is important because the output and quality of work can positively or negatively impact an organization and is relatively easy to measure. The next metric to examine is going to hone in on the quality of the work being produced. Attention to detail, accuracy, number of mistakes, and overall standard of work being performed by the new employees will be a factor in evaluating the selection system. Lastly, the retention rate of new hires tracks how they stay with the company, having a higher retention rate is positively correlated with a successful selection system. When there is a higher retention rate it usually suggests a compatibility between
Ashley Tinsley employees and their roles. An easy way to break down these metrics is with a staffing flowchart as seen on page 293 of the textbook. This breakdown makes it easy to see which department or supervisor can properly record the metrics and help answer questions about the hiring process.
