Law enforcement practices are changing as a society and technology become more
entwined. The specific illustration focuses on the UK's innovative use of speed cameras and
smartphone technologies to combat crime. The British Police have successfully exploited the
existing camera networks and license plate databases to track suspicious vehicles in real time by
combining these capabilities with the pervasive usage of cell phones (Wallace, 2020).
This cutting-edge approach to monitoring and crime prevention follows a person's every
step using GPS data that may be obtained from their smartphone (Gierlack et al., 2014). There
are significant concerns regarding potential privacy invasions and their impacts, even though
there are good odds of lowering crime rates. It necessitates the implementation of appropriate
limitations on the scope of surveillance that may be justifiably conducted in the name of law
enforcement.

have?
As a result of this technique, law enforcement officials' capacity to deter and resolve

The authorities must create clear standards and guidelines to prevent misuse. These
should outline who can access the data, how it can be used, and how long it can be stored.
Independent oversight could be added to ensure that the rules are being followed. Thus, system
operations must be made transparent to increase public confidence.
3. How can the use of this monitoring technology strike the right balance between
individual privacy and public safety?
A thorough approach is required to balance personal privacy and public safety (Farivar,
2015). Priority should be given to ensuring that technology is used only as needed and by valid
warrants or licenses. Second, steps should be taken to anonymize data whenever it is possible.
Finally, strict penalties for misuse can be implemented to ensure that privacy is not inadvertently
breached.
