Project Cloud Migration
Statement of Need Security in the company is severely lacking, as we have had many information breaches in our systems kept locally with a huge lack of security oversight due to all employees having immediate access to information. Moving our company to a cloud-based infrastructure would improve the efficiency and security of the company greatly to include the following: Cost Efficiency: Without the need for an upfront investment like our current hardware and infrastructure, we can pay for the resources we use versus paying for extra unused resources.
Accessibility: The cloud services enable employees to access applications and data from anywhere with internet connection, this will hugely facilitate remote work and collaboration amongst our team. Enhanced Security: The providers listed below each employ their own security teams and security measures that exceed the capabilities our company currently has that will protect against unauthorized access and data breaches. Cloud Service Providers
Here are the Top 3 Cloud Service Providers:
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Market leader and one of the oldest and most established that offers key services such as computing power, storage, databases, machine learning, and analytics. Microsoft Azure
A component of Microsoft that seamlessly integrates with Microsoft’s software products that make it quite the popular choice for organizations with such a need. Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
One of Google’s suite of cloud platforms that is known for its strengths in data analytics, machine learning, and big data processing, with services like BigQuery and TensorFlow. It also includes very low-
latency access using Google’s global network infrastructure. Recommended Plan
Recommendation: Microsoft Azure
Microsoft Azure would be the best fit for Don & Associates due to its comprehensive service portfolio, integration with the entire Microsoft ecosystem, and hybrid capabilities. To make the migration go as smoothly as possible, we will establish the following plan:
Conduct a comprehensive inventory of existing IT assets, applications, and dependencies.
Evaluate each application's compatibility with Azure services.
Prioritize workloads based on criticality, complexity, and business impact.
Set up an Azure subscription and create the necessary resources, such as virtual networks, storage accounts, and security groups.
Implement Azure Active Directory for identity and access management.
Configure user accounts, roles, and permissions to ensure secure access to Azure resources.
Design and implement the networking infrastructure on Azure, including virtual networks, subnets, and VPN connections if necessary.
Ensure connectivity between on-premises data centers and Azure.
Implement Azure Monitor and Azure Security Center for monitoring and security management.
Set up alerts, dashboards, and logging to ensure visibility into the performance and security of the Azure environment.
Implement Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery to ensure data protection and business continuity.
Define backup and recovery policies for critical workloads.
Conduct thorough testing of applications and workloads in the Azure environment.
Perform performance testing, security testing, and user acceptance testing to
validate the success of the migration.
Execute the final migration, monitor closely during the cutover, and address any issues promptly.
Optimize resource utilization, performance, and costs in the Azure environment post-migration.
Impact of Recommended Plan Migrating to Microsoft Azure can address the needs of various stakeholders within an organization by offering a range of benefits that align with their specific concerns and responsibilities.
Cost Efficiency: Azure's pay-as-you-go model allows for better cost management, converting capital expenses into operational expenses. This can align with financial objectives and provide more predictable budgeting. Don & Associates would be able to forecast and plan budgets more accurately, as
they only pay for the resources consumed. This contrasts with traditional capital-intensive IT investments.
Advanced Technologies: Azure offers a broad range of advanced services, such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data analytics, empowering developers to leverage cutting-edge technologies.
By addressing the specific needs of our stakeholders at Don & Associates, migrating to Microsoft Azure can contribute to overall organizational success and competitiveness in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. It's crucial to involve stakeholders throughout the migration process to ensure alignment with business objectives and successful adoption of the cloud platform.

Storing sensitive data on external servers does raise security concerns, which makes the need for a wide range of measure to better protect again data breaches and unauthorized access. Azure does provide many security measures not only for our data but all the data they store for other companies on their servers. We also need to remain flexible while using Microsoft Azure, as becoming too reliant can make it challenging to switch to one of the other top providers if we need to in the future. Thankfully the other two top providers listed have services for transferring data from Microsoft Azure that will make it much easier to accomplish this. There will be a small drawback on getting training out to the IT team and
employees on how to manage our data and infrastructure once the migration is complete, but this is solved by using the many tools and training guides Azure provides with their service in order to ensure we have all the tools and resources we need to be build and grow our business here at Don & Associates.
