M4 Assignment: Application Software When answering the questions below, be sure to: Do your own work. This assignment is to be completed individually. Utilize the Tech Talk discussion area if you need a bit of tech support while working on the assignment. Section 1: Basic Types of Apps and Software 1. Identify an app on your phone that you use every day, and describe how you use it. [1pt] I use WhatsApp, its an app that I use to call my family back home and also use it to send messages to friends and family. 2. Identify an app on your phone that you consider “bloatware” and never expect to use. Explain. [1pt] Sudoku, it’s a game application that keeps coming up whenever there is a software update and I never even use it. 3. Think about all the e-commerce (online) purchases you make. What percent of your total purchases do you estimate are m-commerce? [1pt] I would say like 45 % would be m-commerce. 4. What is the most popular way to purchase software today for your PC? [1pt] Online through company websites directly. 5. List the two main ways software is created today. [2pts] Two main ways is open source or proprietary. 6. You recently paid $400 at a store and purchased a software program to use on your home computer. Explain the effect EULA has on you if friends and relatives ask to copy and use this software on their computers. [3pts] EULA may prohibit making copies of the software so your friends and family should be informed about that, and you cannot provide copies of that software. Secondly if there is any number of installations in the software than your friends and family can install it but they will need to but there on license and comply with EULA terms. EULA may prohibit transfer of software license to other parties and if you do that you will be violating the EULA agreement and may be liable for copyright infringement.

It is almost that same but there is not much support if something goes wrong compared to Microsoft office where there is support if something goes wrong. Section 4: Installing, Launching, and Uninstalling Software Select one of the software applications you indicated above, either free, for purchase (a trial version), or open source, to install, launch, and uninstall from your computer. Note: You are to install and uninstall software on your computer, not your phone. The free or trial version software tends to have better install and uninstall components than open source software, so you may want to choose one of those for the scope of this assignment. 4. Describe how the install/uninstall process went for you. Did you have any trouble? Was it harder/easier/just as you expected? Have you installed and uninstalled software before? Did this process make you a little nervous? Explain your answers. [3pts] The installation process was easy and had no trouble at all because I have been installing and uninstalling programs in my computer a lot. And it was a very normal process for me. 5. Locate one other help resource for the application you chose and provide a link to it. Do a quick evaluation of the resources. How does it compare to the software’s help page? Is it better or worse? More or less helpful? Explain your answer.
