Cloud computing is the on-demand delivery of information technology resources used over the internet and is a pay-as-you-use service (What is Amazon Gamelift?, 2022). Organizations of every size and industry are using a wide variety of uses cases, such as big data analytics, software developments, data backup and disaster recovery (What is Amazon Gamelift?, 2022). After researching the AWS offerings on Amazon, the one that I personally found interesting and can be used for both a business opportunity and personal use is Amazon GameLift. Amazon GameLift can deploy, operate and scale dedicated, low-cost servers in the cloud of session- based multiplayer games (What is Amazon Gamelift?, 2022). Gamelift helps deliver high- performance, high reliability game servers that meets worldwide demand (What is Amazon Gamelift?, 2022). One of my hobbies is playing and streaming first-person shooter (FPS) video games like Apex Legends, at a competitive level over the past year or so. The eSports community has been growing rapidly in audience, viewership. tournaments and prize pools earnings and has potential for big business opportunities. Today, there are hundreds of tournaments weekly and different custom lobby matches that need accurate and reliable servers to uphold the games integrity to be playable. This is an issue I have personally ran into when playing these FPS games are lag servers, which make for frustrating game play, especially when you are competing against players from overseas country like Japan, Russia, and the UK that are on higher PING or connection lag. Amazon Gamelift can be used to fix this issue and bring better more reliable servers to FPS games. The business opportunity that Amazon Gamelift can bring to the eSports community is bringing more events with reliable server connection, which is lacking for smaller events across the esports platforms and can be used to create newer unique games and servers for those games. Gamelift allows for custom-built game severs and real-time servers, which allows you to host private custom lobbies and real-time game servers that connects gamers worldwide (How Gamelift Works, 2022). This could not be done without access and usages to the cloud. For example, if you created an FPS game and wanted to host a tournament with 30 team and 60 players and you want it to be an international tournament, Gamelift will allow the tools and technology to have reliable server to do so. Gamelift supports cross-play, which allows players from different platforms to play in the same serve, which is needed when creating these multiplayer games (How Gamelift Works, 2022). Amazon Gamelift can improve the gaming experience for both personal gamers and developers who are creating newer games allowing for a smoother reliable connection and accurate server responses, which is crucial in FPS games.
