Executive Summary Don & Associates is a financial consulting company that is looking to expand its services and locations, using the most economical means while providing equipment needs, minimum downtime, data accessibility from anywhere, regular maintenance schedules, yet eliminating the need for more space. In an effort to expand the company’s products and services, Don & Associates have decided to try their hand at cloud computing. The reason that the company feels that cloud computing would be a good choice for operations is because it solves the issue of expansion while keeping the cost low. Using Cloud computing technology for their network would allow the company to expand to just about any location they want to without loss of operations and ample access to data, while also being a cost savings measure. The biggest challenge is researching the different types of cloud computing and deciding which is best for the company’s needs. Advantages of Cloud Computing Competitive Edge gives you an advantage over competition that does not use this technology Security – Information can be secured and hosted in a controlled environment Reliable – 99.99% uptime Cost Savings – operational cost are reduced significantly since there is no need for additional hardware, software, and software licenses. Mobility -allow for remote locations Automatic Software updates which reduces IT labor costs
Types of Cloud Computing - Public Cloud is a pay per use option for businesses. While this type of cloud computer meets all the concerns of cost, no restrictions on location, and reliability, the set back to using this type is its failure to secure sensitive data. - Private Cloud generally used in large businesses or enterprises with a more controlled environment, limiting access, making it more secure. The private cloud can be managed in-house, or by a service provider. While this sounds like the excellent choice, keep in mind, this option is more expensive and it’s difficult to access data in remote locations. - Hybrid Cloud combines features from both the public and private cloud. It is cost effective, scalable, and secure. - Community Cloud Organizations share the cloud environment based on locations, specific organizational needs or some other similar need. It can be better described as a private cloud working as a public cloud within a restricted location Cloud Computing Vendors The most popular three cloud vendors are Microsoft Azure = Azure can offer Microsoft products such as MS Office, Windows OS, in the cloud. Microsoft also have business intelligence applications built into its cloud computing system. It also offers advanced security options Amazon AWS - Amazon Web Services (AWS) is an Amazon company that was launched in the year 2002. AWS is the most popular cloud service provider in the world.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering over 165 fully featured services from data centers globally. This service is used by millions of customers. Google Cloud – Just like the above two vendors, Google Cloud includes computing, storage, security, virtualization, and DevOps.
