IT Department Training Manual Case Scenario A new client needs recommendations for computers and operating systems for a new location. Most companies have devices that run other operating systems besides Microsoft Windows. Companies often have a combination of servers, workstations, laptops, tablets, and phones. A technician in the field must know how to support other operating systems. Understanding the features and options in each operating system is very important when making recommendations. The client is also evaluating purchasing computers or allowing BYOD for a while to save money. The client needs to better understand the advantages and disadvantages of BYOD in a business setting. If the client does allow BYOD, they want to understand any security risks that come with BYOD. Using this template address the following areas in 4-6 pages: 1.) Explain the features of both Linux OS and Mac OS in detail (e.g., GUI, multiuser capability, multitasking, portability, security, MAC OS X multi-touch gestures, and recent features with Apple's mobile devices running iOS). Linux OS has some good features, such as it being a free and open source system, has end to end encryption, has a graphical user interface similar to Windows, and the ability to configure the keyboard into multiple languages. It supports a lot of popular programming languages such as C/C++, Java, Python, and Ruby, comes with bash scripting and supports SSH. Linux is also a portable environment, so it can be used on any device. 2.) Explain the steps needed to troubleshoot connectivity issues for these devices: -A mobile device -A Mac laptop
-A Linux workstation 3.) In a BOYD implementation, what are the pros and cons for a company? 4.) If the company does proceed with BYOD, what specific security concerns would the company face?
