Roles of Blockchain in Enhancing Data Security
A blockchain is a developing register of records, typically referred to as
blocks
, which are joined by the use of cryptography. The blockchain technology reinforces electronic currencies such as Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin. It enables electronic data to be disseminated safely, and avoid duplication of such information. Further, the blockchain enables institutions to send data from one point to another in a completely automated and secure way. As a result, the key role of blockchain is to ensure that every distinct piece of information is owned by a single person or entity. The blockchain technology is among the most ideal techniques of protecting data
from threats that are mainly caused by the prevailing developments in tech. The execution of blockchain can enhance data security in institutions across different sectors such as military, education and healthcare sectors. A crucial role of administrations and institutions is to reserve trusted data concerning activities, assets, organizations and persons. For the past decade, military departments in nations such as the U.S., China, NATO and Russia have demonstrated big interests in blockchain, as an approach of data
protection. Hashim (2020) argues that the blockchain tech aids in, “the prevention against cyber-attacks of other nations or terrorist groups, defence
of critical weapon systems, automated systems management”. Other key benefits of executing the blockchain tech in the military forces comprise of validation of data and orders on the logistics or the battlefield. Military forces
can use the blockchain technology to ensure that information concerning a conflict is disseminated safely and does not reach the opposing side. Blockchain technology can also play a key role in enhancing the security of data when executed in educational institutions, particularly in higher education institutes. Moore (2019) contends that "the most promising use case for blockchain in higher education is to transform the "record-
keeping" of degrees, certificates and diplomas, making credentials digital and under the learner’s control, without the need for an intermediary to verify them.” As a result, the primary function that the blockchain tech can do in an educational institution is to improve the record-keeping process, and
ultimately the safety of the organization data. The capacity of the blockchain
tech to enhance record keeping further makes it automate to find solutions to intellectual property administration issues. For instance, the blockchain can be implemented to recognize whether a concept or innovation is unique as well as to register patents, copyright and IP assets. All these are processes of safeguarding the organizational data. Another sector that the blockchain can suitably help in improving data safety is healthcare. There are numerous ways in which the blockchain tech can be used in healthcare to enhance data security. Daley (2019) posits that "the ledger technology facilitates the secure transfer of patient medical records, manages the medicine supply chain and helps healthcare researchers unlock genetic code.” The ledger tech is one of the components of the blockchain technology. Further, considering its capability to deflate the
present spending bubble, safeguard patient information as well as enhance the general medical care experience, the blockchain can aid in relieving the distress and pain. Presently, the blockchain is executed to undertake every task from protecting encrypt patient information to the control of pandemics.
A blockchain is a developing catalogue of records, typically referred to as blocks
, which are connected by the use of cryptography. Essentially, blockchain technology can be implemented in diverse institutions to safeguard data. The protection of organizational data is stimulated by the capacity of blockchain to resist alteration of information. In the military, the blockchain tech can be used to ensure that data is sent and delivered to the appropriate personnel on the battlefield. The blockchain technology can be used in higher education to enhance the record-keeping process. In the healthcare sector, blockchain technology warranties the secure transfer of records from one department to another.
