2 After filling the business continuity planning questionnaire IBM has a score of 132. The score indicates that IBM is excellent in its business continuity plan. With some further enhancement, training and testing and embedding business continuity in the company’s culture. IBM has processes and plans in all its global presence to assist sustain its business continuity through continuous assessment of potential disasters. Over the years, IBM has spent ample time developing practices and methodologies meant to assist in the continuity of commercial operations. The success of IBM’s business continuity, is due to aligning of this system with generally accepted industry standards and guidelines (IBM, 2019). The organization has written corporate directives that establish and define the framework of continuity. The framework has guidelines for comprehending IBM, business continuity responsibilities and roles, plan maintenance, testing, and documentation and reacting to business continuity risk. The robustness of the business continuity planning is due to the corporate business continuity group (IBM, 2019). The group distributes planning guidelines across the organization, regularly communicates with top management concerning business continuity preparedness, and handling risk management. Each of the IBM’s business unit is tasked with developing and implementing business continuity plans. The company looks at various risks that may affect service delivery, personnel or stakeholders, stakeholders, or company reputation when business process is deemed to be critical ( Mengxi, 2021). The business operations are imperative for the organization’s success and the company identifies them through external and internal risk factors, financial contributions, and operational effect, if there was disabling of operations. IBM’s business continuity plan offers a readiness state that shields IBM’s top priorities. The strategy entails supporting applications and infrastructure and prioritizing critical processes based on risk
3 assessments and business impact ( Mengxi, 2021). Therefore, IBM has the possibility of restoring business operations based on the instructions of the business continuity plan. IBM’s strategy requires regular update and review of the continuity plans. The company can test and maintain the plans at least annually. The success of IBM business continuity plan is due to the company’s dedicated team. The company’s global leadership made up of technical and business representatives from all IBM divisions that supports the team. The control team also has links to the IBM chief information officer, crisis and security management teams, and the enterprise risk committee (IBM, 2019). The team, through cross-functional governance, facilitates corporate-wide adherence to the company’s business continuity management strategy. IBM tests its business continuity plans when undertaking its maintenance process by each of the business division. After the completion of the tests, there is the formulation of action plans to tackle any perceived shortfalls. IBM tests its business continuity plan once annually (IBM, 2019). IBM trains key business continuity personnel via intervallic testing done at least once yearly. Training is available via awareness and educational materials accessible by all workers via internal communications like educational presentations, lectures, newsletters, forums, and blogs (IBM, 2019). The business continuity management team has a global community that shares best practices and expertise with IBM business continuity teams and employees in all business lines. The company’s business continuity plans handles all critical processes, such as product support and client services. IBM global support operations utilizes a worldwide ticket routing to available operators and centers, a diverse workforce, and a geographically dispersed model. The
