Unit 11 Forum
Find a video of a public speaker that you think is effective and persuasive. (Ted Talks
are a great source.) Analyze the speaker's performance, consider:
What elements of the presentation stood out?
What was strongest: the presentation's content or the presenter's
mannerisms?
Did the presenter use visual aids? Did they support the presenter's content?
Did the speaker engage the audience? If so, how?
How can you apply these exemplars to your own presentation (in this course
and in the future)?
Craft your analysis into a few paragraphs and paste a link to the video and your written
analysis into the Forum post.
I agree with your analysis of this talk by Julian Treasure. He does have a great
knack of making everything sound simple and effective. I was not sure how
to answer the second question, as both the presentation and his mannerisms
were quite significant. The presentation’s content is simple and accessible,
and without his mannerisms, I think the impact of this information would
have dissipated. This is why I would argue that his mannerisms were
strongest. The visual aids throughout were awesome, and he engages the
whole audience at once so effectively and seamlessly. It flowed along with
the presentation, and he made sure to set the pace. Overall, i thought this
was a great talk and a great example to use for this forum.
