Assessment task details and instructions
The management team of a small business has asked you to prepare a short report to advise
them on their future approach to data analysis and business intelligence in your degree subject
area. Your seminar leader and the Blackboard site will provide further details.
Currently the business is committed to Microsoft Office 365 and use Excel for all their data
analysis needs. They are considering adopting Power BI to complement or replace this.
Your report will provide a short overview of business intelligence and Power BI, together with a
dashboard that you will create to showcase the potential of Power BI to the business.
Your report will consist of
three
sections:
Part 1
(40%, 600 words) will provide an introduction to business intelligence and Power BI.
Part 2
(20%, 300 words) will describe some of the sources of data relevant to your degree, and
introduce the dataset used for the dashboard.
Part 3
(40%, 300 words + dashboard) will include a link to your Power BI dashboard and an
explanation of what it shows, together with a review of potential materials for training existing
staff on the new software.
The dataset that you will use to create a dashboard will be provided by your seminar lecturer.
Maximum wordcounts are indicated above. The dashboard and any references are not included
in the wordcount.
