Access Control Discussion
For the past 16 weeks, I have learned much about Access Control, a fundamental security
concept for protecting data and digital assets (McGee, 2020). I have gained a better
understanding of the processes and considerations that go into developing and implementing an
access control system. Specifically, I have learned about the different types of access control and
how they can be used to protect data and digital assets. This includes understanding the different
components of an access control system, including authentication, authorization, and auditing. I
have also learned the importance of assessing risk and applying appropriate access control
measures. One of the most beneficial aspects of this course was the instructor’s approach to
teaching. The instructor was very knowledgeable and could explain the concepts clearly and
concisely. He provided ample examples to illustrate his points, which was very helpful in
understanding the material. Additionally, the instructor encouraged us to ask questions, ensuring
that we understood the material and could apply it in the future.
Another practical aspect of the course was group assignments
(
McGee, 2020). These
assignments allowed us to work together on a project and understand the material more
interactively. Additionally, the instructor was very open to feedback and was always willing to
answer any questions we had. Suggestions for further improvement of the course include
providing more assignments that require us to apply the concepts we learned in class. This would
allow us to gain hands-on experience with access control systems and better understand the
material. Additionally, providing more examples of real-world access control systems would be
beneficial in helping us understand the material. Generally, I am pleased with how this course
has been taught and the knowledge I have gained. Access control is a complex topic, but the
instructor explained it in a way that was easy to understand. By the end of the course, I felt I had
a much better understanding of access control and the processes involved in developing and
implementing an access control system.
