Final Portfolio Davian Dunn Purdue University Global CM 204 Professor Strawser November 22, 2021
Introduction (2–3 paragraphs) Explain who you are and your chosen professional field. I am a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army. I am currently employed as a Transportation Management Coordinator in the United States Army Transportation Corps. I am currently assigned to the Reserve Component in a New Jersey Reserve unit. Providing full- time continuity on operations and training. I've been selected to transition to the Warrant Officer Corps and serve as a Mobility Officer beginning in March 2022. This required me to submit a candidacy application, which would be reviewed by Senior Warrant Officers who would assess my credibility, previous professional evaluations, and potential for eligibility as a member of the United States Army's smallest group of technical experts in any given field. Include an overview of how you perceive yourself professionally. I feel that I am a trustworthy and respected person. It is common for me to go work with a competent and well-trained predecessor who can do their duties and responsibilities to the same or greater extent as myself. The reputation I leave behind and the way people refer to me may have a significant impact on my level of professionalism and honesty. Inquiries, queries, and demands from former colleagues will come to me for years after I've left a unit. Soldiers who have never met me have contacted me throughout the years, just because they heard about me or were told to do so. It's time to figure out my professional image. When faced with a circumstance like this, I often rely on the wisdom gained by working with a large number of successful Soldiers. Lifelong professionalism and how you will maintain your image
(2–3 paragraphs) Include an overview of how will you focus on continuing to maintain your professional image in the future of the career you have chosen to pursue. To retain one's professional image, I believe that being consistent and reliable is a great method to do so (10 Ways To Be Professional at Work, n.d.). Everyone wishes they had someone they could rely on for help. Even though we are all overloaded, it is critical that we find time for one another. To maintain our trustworthiness and consistency, we must always carry out our agreed-upon obligations and promises. A person's professional image will suffer if they often postpone or seek a modification, or if they fail to satisfy the expectations of others. For the sake of my professional image, I feel that coming with a portion of a response is the wisest course of action for me to take at this point in time. You can better manage expectations when you have something to work with, since the concept of "later" might be vaguely defined at times. Maintaining a professional image is a secondary approach for me (n.d.). For members of my MOS, we've set up a Facebook group where they can ask, respond, and share ideas with others all around the world in real time. Due to the fact that we are spread out over a number of operational domains and theater commands, this is vital information. Our knowledge is limited, but we do have some ideas. Although I cannot be everywhere at once, I can use social media to help. Short-term goals (2 paragraphs per goal) Write 2–3 short-term goals written as a SMART Statement, a plan to meet your goal, and your rationale. Goal Statement 1: I must complete the Defense Transportation Regulation (DTR) course

before the end of the year in order to attend the Warrant Officer Basic Mobility Course (WOBC) next year. Plan: To be eligible for WOBC in 2022, I must finish the DTR Course as my last piece of pre- requisite education. Rationale: To ensure that I have enough time to complete pre-attendance obligations before WOCS, I plan to finish the course by the end of 2021. Just three weeks after WOCS ends, I'll begin WOBC, and I'll be back in school for five weeks. Over a five-month period, the Basic Course will be offered. Before arriving at WOBC, students must have completed the DTR course, which teaches strategic movement planning ideas and foundational skills in a short period of time. Goal Statement 2: Have my suggested Transportation Movement Release form acknowledged as a standardized Department of Defense Form (DD Form) before the conclusion of Fiscal Year (FY) 2023. Plan: Forces Command units are currently being used to test and provide feedback on this new concept. If there are any shortfalls in the proposed form or those that can be remedied by using the proposed form, HQDA will distribute the form to various units across the Army for testing and analysis while conducting movement control, requests for support, allocating assets, and mission debriefs. The Army's European Command, Africa Command, Training and Doctrine Command, and Forces Command have already held several meetings. Rationale: My motivation for pursuing this goal is to reduce the complexity of an already complex situation. Field Manual 4-0 (2019) provides detailed instructions on how to request assistance (see below), but there is no standardized form; units are free to devise their own method. When external assistance is provided, it does not guarantee that all of the necessary
requirements are identified. To avoid wasting money, we must first exhaust all organic capabilities within the unit or nearby supporting units before turning to commercial and contracted support. The current trend is to use commercial and contracted support due to their quick availability, ease of use, and elimination of the need for internal equipment maintenance; however, this is usually the result of hurried, ill-conceived planning. A standardized form will ensure that the assistance meets the requirements, that funding is withheld until it is required, that communication between origin and destination is clear, and that everyone is held accountable for their actions or inactions. Goal Statement 3: By 2030, depart from the US Army and work for a local or county law enforcement group. Plan: My purpose is to conclude my existing educational program of acquiring a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice with specializations in law enforcement and forensic pathology prior to the end of my military duty. As I approach the conclusion of my military duty, I will choose a site to establish domicile by analysis of the property market, city and state tax rates, and conduct interviews with law enforcement agencies in those areas to identify which are best fit for my abilities and income aspirations. I will examine the qualifications for work with these agencies and finish any extra training that would be required to satisfy their hiring standards. Rationale: My rationale for this desire is because I was taught with certain ideas that service to others is above your selfish interests. I observe a lot of sadness and suffering in the world and at home because good people struggle while others abuse. I believe in outstanding order and discipline. I am not interested in a police state, but I am interested in ensuring people live safely without fear.
Long-term goals (2 paragraphs per goal) Write 2–3 long-term goals written as a SMART Statement, a plan to meet your goal, and your rationale. Goal Statement 1: By the year 2040, I want to be able to practice law in court as a member of the District Attorney's Office. Plan: My goal is to enroll in legal studies programs and get a Master's degree. This is the pinnacle of my life's labor in service to others. Before enrolling in a school leading to a Master of Laws degree, I must first get a Juris Doctor degree. Although, the Master's degree is not needed, it will provide me with additional knowledge that will assist me in passing the bar exam. My next step would be to join a state bar organization. Last but not least, I'd want to work for the District Attorney's Office. Rationale: This purpose is motivated by the fact that the American criminal justice system has degenerated into a junkyard where we may dispose of people we no longer want in our society. As a rehabilitation and reformation center, it has grown into a long-term solution throughout the previous century. Today's criminal prosecutors, in my opinion, are not doing their jobs fairly or unbiasedly. By recounting his own experiences in the courtroom, Adam Foss (2016) vividly demonstrates the issue in his Ted Talk. The only thing I care about is for individuals to be held accountable for their actions, to be punished appropriately, and given the option to rehabilitate rather than be annihilated. Make an effect on the world by what you do and don't do. Education Plan (minimum 3 paragraphs) Identify at least 3 ways that you can maintain your knowledge throughout your career. Explain why each way would be important to your career.

There are a number of ways I may maintain my education and marketability while serving in the military (Nam, 2018). If you don't have a motive to study, you won't learn effectively. There must be a sense of purpose, desire, and direction in order for a person to act. As I go through the Warrant Officer Corps in the Transportation Corps, I will be seen as a subject matter expert. A brigade of 3,000 troops and their equipment will be my responsibility to transport throughout the world (Jiwani, 2021). It requires knowledge of international customs and clearance procedures, hazardous material packing, paperwork, and strategic planning for airlifts and vessels, as well as financial analysis in order to discover the most cost-effective approach to complete the task. These include the Unit Movement Officer Deployment Planning Course (UMODPC), Technical Transport of Hazardous Materials (AMMO-62) and the Air Load Planner's Course (ALP-C), as well as the Integrated Computerized Deployment Execution System (ICODES), among others (TSPC). It's also important to keep up with local and state legislation when pursuing a law enforcement job (Wilson, 2020). All municipalities, counties, and states have their own set of rules. There are certain locations where the use of marijuana has been decriminalized, while others are considering the legalization of prostitution, Understanding the laws I am responsible with enforcing is the first step to becoming an effective law enforcement officer to avoid violating anyone's constitutional rights, I need to be informed of what those rights are. All people have the legal right to privacy and to feel safe and secure. They are also entitled to a fair trial. As long as there is a reasonable suspicion of criminal behavior, they have the right not to be searched. Laws are always evolving, so these are only the basics. To be effective in my role as a public servant and a public protector, I must maintain my knowledge and training to the most recent standards.
Third and last, I must never stop learning, investing in myself, or investing in others to maintain my marketability and expertise. Training and education may be expensive, however not all training and education are expensive. When it comes to education, mentors are invaluable. When it comes to mentoring, my belief is that it is often misapplied when it is most critical. A mentor or instructor is the best source of information. With the correct mentor in place, shadowing is an excellent way to learn the ins and outs of a job well done. Budgeting Plan (minimum 3 paragraphs) Provide an explanation of the Budget Plan which covers future education and career marketability needs. In the Army, I have access to tuition support, which serves as my principal source of revenue towards my educational goals. A 3.3-semester-hour class costs me $250. (SH). When it comes to military continuing education, I presently have a yearly maximum of 16 SH or $5,000, whichever comes first (2019). While pursuing an undergraduate degree in criminal justice, this is the major budgeting tool I use. In the event that I exceed my yearly budget or allotment, I pay the additional expenditures myself (Jin et al ., 2018). However, I seldom spend more than $1,200 a year since my budget is set up to handle an additional $2,500 per year without any concern. Obtaining a Master of Laws degree is my second financial plan. The Army's Tuition Assistance Program offers the same benefit, although it has a maximum funding restriction of 39 semester hours. My goal is to completely use my $10,000 Montgomery GI Bill to pay for my Master's degree program and any remaining costs. After my brother was killed in a military helicopter accident in 2001, his life insurance policy put aside $100,000 for my long-term financial plan. To acquire a job with a United States District Attorney's Office, I will utilize this money to improve my education and skills. For
each job, there is a distinct set of needs. For administrative roles, some businesses may just need a high school diploma, while others may prefer someone with courtroom experience. In the end, I've decided to utilize the life insurance policy my brother left me since it stipulates that the money may only be used to further my studies.
