In order to ensure that an organization is prepared for a crisis, they must practice for these crisis
activities In my organization we call these COOP drills or continuity of operations planning. These activities prepare us as an organization to handle any kind of disruption of activity or crisis operation. We often hope for the best but understand that crisis is not only unpredictable but also inevitable at some point and we want to make sure we are ready like many other organizations. Crucial elements to be involved in a simulated crisis drill include real life scenarios and outcomes, clear plans and instructions to follow, communication or reporting channels and some sort of feedback or after action report. The real life scenarios give real life experiences for employees or crisis teams to look back on to use when a real crisis happens. Clear plans and instructions give a checklist of items that must be achieved in order for success. Communication
channels give the employees the ability to test reporting and their network in case of disrupted communications or operations. Feedback or after action reporting allows for corrections to be made and deficiencies to be addressed. Success is my opinion is continued operation with minimum mission and monetary loss. Our mission is not to lose mission data at any point and if we can maintain that without losing our investors’ money in a crisis then that is success.
