I. Summary: During this lab assignment, we explored the browsing history and various methods to examine it. We examined different browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome, each offering insights into a user's web activities. By analyzing the browsing history, we could gain valuable information about a person's online behavior. Each browser provided options to search through indexes, cookies, and URLs in the history. Additionally, we examined flag examples in the lab, highlighting specific criteria we were searching for. II. Specific Practices or Resources A. Types of browser artifacts and their relevance to an investigation There were three main browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome. Each of these browsers had a feature that allowed users to view their browsing history. For example, in the lab we used a tool called SQLite Database Browser to access this information. In Google Chrome, we were able to navigate to the user's data and find the flag 5 challenge. B. Methods of recovering and analyzing browser artifacts we were able to access the browsing history in Google Chrome by using a built-in feature. This allowed us to see the structure of the database and search through different tables. We also had the option to view the recent URLs that were stored. In Mozilla Firefox, we used SQLite Manager to access the internet history files. This section contained all the information about the websites visited. We could browse and search through the history and even search for specific URLs. Additionally, we were able to view bookmarks and cookies that were saved in Firefox. C. Differences in artifacts based on the browser type There are various types of artifacts based on the type of browser being used. Each browser type has its own unique capabilities, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome. These capabilities can be identified and analyzed by examining the browser history, which can
provide valuable information about a person's online activities. To facilitate this analysis, tools like SQLite Manager can be used. In Internet Explorer, the default History View allows users to easily view their browsing history. Firefox is a popular choice for browsing as it is compatible with multiple operating systems such as Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. The availability of add-ons like SQLite Manager further enhances the functionality of the browser. Chrome has its own built-in database search feature that allows users to search their browsing history and activity. III.
