ASM 22200 Lab #11 -1- ASM 22200 – Laboratory Eleven Sprayer Calibration On-Track Submission: Prior to midnight, day of Lab #12 Educational Objectives: 1. To become familiar with sprayers and chemical application equipment; 2. To become familiar with the operations and difficulties maintaining of various spraying implements; 3. To understand calibration methods for spraying equipment; and 4. To improve technical writing skills. Lab Procedure: 1) Review the selected pages from the manual for the Raven Sprayer; 2) Closely examine the unit within the shop at ADM; 3) Write a description of machine and each nozzle and its spray pattern. Provide an explanation of how the unit meters and dispenses agricultural chemicals; 4) Repair the unit so that it works (Mr. Brand & I have disabled it through various common sprayer problems); 5) Take three sets of data for each nozzle (use only the right boom) at three pressures (1 min @ 15, 30, & 45 psi ); 6) Provide a data table & describe how to use this data to calibrate the machine for field work; and 7) Answer the short paragraph questions.

ASM 22200 Lab #11 -2- Short Answer Paragraphs: 1. Was the Sprayer manual useful in debugging the system? Common sense with regard to physical issues? 2. Identify all of the problems encountered and repaired prior to the calibration exercise; 3. Which style of nozzle seems the most useful? Least? 4. What precautions should be taken to insure good daily operation when in use? 5. How should the machine be stored at the end of the season?
