Vivian Nguyen Vn4998 Professional Development SWOT Analysis Summary As part of my SWOT analysis, I asked close friends and co-workers to fill out an anonymous google form on my performance in the professional and personal setting. After reviewing their responses, I have concluded that my SWOT tends to stay about the same throughout my answers. Some of my strengths in life include being able to multitask, working well in a group setting, and being proactive. Personally, I am able to keep the group intact by providing a fun and safe environment. I am the mediator and look for the best in people. I also have “street smarts'' which allows me to connect and befriend others quickly in a personal setting. In a professional setting, I am able to pick up on tasks quickly and easily which aids in my workplace’s performance level. I can multitask as well which is very necessary in the healthcare profession. I work as the support and at times can play the leader role in a group setting. I prioritize my networks and put others before myself in situations that regard the well being of others. My weaknesses varied in their answers. Some of my acquaintances and co-workers said that I have trouble balancing everything on a plate while some said I worry too much about making everything perfect. I can get stressed from negative feedback which could set me back on my tasks by focusing on the negatives. Overall, I have received many comments on putting too much on my plate and spreading myself too thin. I was advised to lessen my school and workload which can help me to focus on my tasks at hand. Personally, I should not push off things to the last minute which can occur due to the many, many tasks that I have on hand at a time. Some opportunities that can help me grow both personally and professionally include time management, exploring more areas of study within my intended route, and finding better ways to cope with my stress and anxiety. I was suggested by my peers to find different career paths within the physician assistant route in order to have a better understanding of what route I truly want to take.
Vivian Nguyen Vn4998 Professional Development There are some threats for my future professionally and personally. Some responses that I received included my difficulty saying no to others, my race and gender, and my indecisiveness on where I want to be in life. I was criticized about my inability to say no which continues to add to my plate and my stress. I tend to let stress take over my emotions which can lead to unprofessional outcomes in my career path. One thing that surprised me is the consistency throughout each person and agreement that I let stress take over my life. I always knew that I get stressed easily due to the plethora of activities and work that I put onto myself, but I was unaware that others saw that too. I was also surprised to find that my peers saw my strengths being able to carry all of my workload and maintain a smile on my face. I am able to be a supporter for others and focus my time on helping others while I have so much going on in my own life. I have never realized just how much my difficulty saying no to others affected me. I have realized that it has contributed to my stress and health problems that have occurred such as constant sickness and diagnosis of chronic migraines. I have also never noticed that I am seen as a leader in my community. Others see me taking on many leadership positions whereas I saw it as just another day. My ability to be a supportive and caring leader has been able to help me build a better relationship with others around me and connected me to people all around my community. From this SWOT analysis, I have learned to manage my time better by taking it day by day, focusing on myself more, finding simple ways to say no to others, and focusing on my health more. I know that without my own health in check, I will not be able to achieve my dreams of helping others and becoming a physician assistant. I will continue to work hard and find more opportunities in my career path through internships, shadowing, and leadership positions. I want to focus on my health by prioritizing my love for the gym. Working out helps me to de-stress and feel productive throughout the day. I hope to start working out in the mornings again in order to wake up prioritizing myself for once. I also plan on taking off some stress on myself by allowing myself to ease off my tiresome workload. I currently work two jobs, take 19 credit hours, participate in at least 8 extracurricular activities, and continuously find time to volunteer and spend time with my friends. Next semester, I plan to decrease my workload to 15
Vivian Nguyen Vn4998 Professional Development credit hours which will hopefully allow me more time to focus on myself and my health. I want to focus on my threats in life by starting to say no to activities that could compromise my health. I will start off by saying no to small things with friends and co-workers. My fear is the toll it could take to my friendships and relationships with others, but I have to learn that saying no sometimes will not ruin a true friendship or partnership. Overall, this SWOT analysis has helped me to improve myself both as a friend and as an employee. I hope to continue working on myself to become the best version for others. I want to create a safe space for my patients and allow them the best healthcare I can provide. My perspective on myself has been opened up, and I have learned more about myself through others.
