HW 2
Chapter 3
Modeling Distance and Examining Inputs/Outputs
Instructions: Follow the steps in the workbook and complete the questions below. Save your document as lastname_HW2.XXXX. Part 3.1 Building the model.
Complete Steps: 1-6.
Question 1: What does the passenger look like as they “move”?
Question 2: What color is the check-in when it is idle and when it is busy?
Question 3: What is the state name and state number when the server is busy?
Part 3.2: Using the 3D Warehouse
Complete steps 1-4.
Part 3.3 Examining Model Input Parameters
Complete Steps 1-3.
Question 4: Using the Simio “help”, what is the mean of a Triangular distribution whose minimum is 1, whose mode is 3 and whose maximum is 8?
Complete Steps 4-7
Question 5: Do you notice any change in behavior of the simulation?
Complete steps 8-9.
Part 3.4: Examining Output
Complete step 1.
Question 6: What is the average number of people waiting at check in?
Question 7: What is the average time in minutes they were waiting?
Question 8: Do you think these are “good” results? Why or why not?
Complete steps 2-4.
Question 9: What did you get for the average, minimum, maximum, and half-width for the number of passengers in the system?
Question 10: What is the average, minimum, maximum, and half-width for time in system (FlowTime) in minutes?
Complete steps 5-6.
Question 11: Suppose you want the average number in the system for Passengers to be within +-5% of its mean? How many replications would be needed given the previous half width calculation?
Question 12: Suppose you want the maximum number in the system for Passengers to be within +-2 passengers? How many replications would be needed?
Complete step 7.
Question 13: What did you get for the “Standard Deviation” for the number of passengers in the system?
Question 14: What part of the confidence interval formulation has the standard error- it’s what SIMIO calls the standard deviation here?
Complete Step 8.
Part 3.5 Using Experiments.
Complete Steps: 1-5.
Question 15: What is the minimum average time in the system for “ScenarioCap4”?
Complete steps 6.
Question 16: What are the average and half-width for average time in system for each scenario?
Complete Steps 7-11.
Question 17: What is the mean average time in the system for “ScenarioCap3”?
Question 18: What is the 95% confidence interval for the mean average time in system for “ScenarioCap3”?
Part 3.6: Input Sensitivity
Complete step 1-4.
Question 19: Passing your cursor over the bars, what are the sensitivity coefficients for the interarrival time and the processing tie for ScenarioCap3?
Question 20: When you examine the Bar Chart and Pie Chart for the time in system response, what is the percentage contribution of each input for ScenarioCap3?
Complete step 5.

Part 2 – Input Analysis
The Excel file
HW2_Dataset.xls
contains 47 observations on call durations (in minutes) at the
call center. Use Stat::Fit (or other software) to fit one or more probability distributions to
these data, including goodness-of-fit testing and probability plots. What’s your
recommendation for a distribution to be used in the simulation model from which to generate
these call-duration times? Provide the correct Simio expression. Pay attention to any
parameterization-difference issues.
