Thanks to artificial intelligence and machine learning, drones will dramatically alter the
acquisition of goods in the future by enabling organizations to provide faster and more efficient
deliveries while cutting costs. Artificial intelligence and machine learning enable drones to
perform intricate tasks with very little human intervention. Some of the tasks that drones can
perform are cycle counting, stock finding, and inventory audits. Drones can count and identify
materials stocked in a warehouse and compare them with data that is stored virtually, thus
enabling safe and cost-effective inventory operations.
There are drones that can provide faster deliveries since they can fly 400 feet above
traffic at 50 Miles per hour while carrying packages up to five pounds. This enables drones to
dramatically reduce delivery times from hours to minutes, which is extremely valuable for time-
sensitive deliveries such as medical supplies, food, and emergency packages. Faster deliveries
mean increased customer satisfaction and loyalty. On December 14, 2016, Amazon announced it
had its first drone delivery in the United Kingdom within 13 minutes. This puts a whole new
perspective on Amazon Prime delivery. In January 2023, Amazon projected that it would send
10,000 deliveries to customers via fleets of flying robots by the end of 2023. Amazon Prime Air
drone deliveries are currently available to customers in Lockeford, California and College Station,
Texas.
Drones reduce fuel consumption and can have up to 94 percent lower energy
consumption per package than the standard delivery vehicle, enabling organizations to be more
efficient and environmentally friendly. With drones, organizations can quickly and accurately
collect data that can be used to help increase productivity and efficiency. Instead of workers
walking around a warehouse to conduct inventory and scan barcodes by hand, drones can
perform these tasks automatically at a faster rate. Drones can keep track of stock levels, confirm
product locations, and search for items that are listed as out of stock or missing. Due to artificial
intelligence and machine learning, drones will increase productivity by automating these tasks
and increasing reliability while reducing the time for each task.
Organizations will be able to reduce costs with the use of drones. Drones can significantly
reduce transportation and labor costs associated with delivering goods. There is no need for a
driver or crew member while operating drones, meaning companies can save money on benefits,
salaries, and other expenses relating to employing human workers.
Artificial intelligence and machine learning enable drones to perform intricate tasks with very
little human intervention. Drones will dramatically alter the acquisition of goods in the future by
enabling organizations to provide faster and more efficient deliveries while cutting costs.
