The USS Yorktown played a pivotal role in the Battle of Midway during World War
II. As one of the three American carriers involved, it was initially damaged in the
Battle of the Coral Sea and underwent rapid repairs to join the fight. During the
Battle of Midway, it was a prime target for the Japanese due to its strategic
importance.

In 1942, the Battle of Midway became a turning point in the Pacific theater of World
