Case Name: Miranda vs. Arizona Summary: Miranda vs. Arizona is a case about rights. Ernesto Miranda was arrested for the crime of rape of a woman. After he was arrested and charged, the investigating officers provided Mr. Miranda with a confession for him to sign which would forfeit his 5 th and 6 th amendment rights provided by the US Constitution. The objection to dismiss the case was unfounded and the Miranda was found guilty at trial based on his signed confession which was presented as evidence by the state prosecution ( Research Guides: A Latinx Resource Guide: Civil Rights Cases and Events in the United States: 1966: Miranda v. The case was appealed to the Arizona Supreme Court and the court upheld the former decision of guilty ( Research Guides: A Latinx Resource Guide: Civil Rights Cases and Events in the United States: 1966: Miranda v. Impact of the case: The impact of the case was that every person that is arrested in the US must be informed of their Consituatinal rights, especially the 5 th and 6 th amendments. Upon arrest, each officer in the US must read a citation called “The Miranda Rights.” If these rights are not read to an offender, the case can be dismissed against the suspect ( Research Guides: A Latinx Resource Guide: Civil Rights Cases and Events in the United States: 1966: Miranda v.
