Part 1: Creating a Research Question

Describe how your assumptions, beliefs, and values influenced your choice of topic.
I chose to learn about climate change because I care about the well-being of our planet and the people who live on it. I think it’s important to understand climate change because
it affects things like water, food, and our overall quality of life. Living in the Boston Cape Cod area, I’ve witnessed the profound effects of climate change, such as more frequent, severe weather blizzard of 2022, like more intense wildfires even in Hawaii in 2023, The main reason for the increase in fires is the rise in global temperatures which has caused dry conditions and drought that allow fires to spread easily. So, my decision to study this topic is influenced by my concern for the environment and people’s well-
being.

Discuss the significance of your historical research question in relation to your current event.
Final research question: How have windmills in East North, historically utilized for agriculture and energy production, contributed to the renewable energy initiatives and sustainability efforts in the face of the current global climate crisis, such as transition to clean energy sources and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions?
This question connects to my historical research question about the role of windmills in 1

I used The Eastham Windmill, a historical landmark located in Eastham on Cape Cod, as a primary source to gain insight into the historical significance of windmills in East North, as it provided valuable historical records and documents that shed light on their role in this area. The Eastham Winmill, located in Eastham on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, is a historical landmark that dated back to the late 17th century. It provides a unique historical context that can influence contemporary events, especially in environmental sustainability. The Eastham Windmill exemplifies the early use of wind power for milling grain. Its preservation and significance in local heritage promote awareness of wind energy’s longstanding role in sustainability and renewable energy.

The Eastham Windmill on Cape Cod was constructed by resident Thomas Paine in Plymouth in 1680. It was moved to Eastham in 1793, showcasing the remarkable contribution of Thomas Paine and local craftsmen in both its creation and relocation, which played a vital role in Cape Cod history. 2

Historical records may not provide detailed information about the motivations of Thomas
Paine; however, it is reasonable to assume that practical and economic considerations, community well-being, business opportunities, technological innovation. Part 3: Examining How Bias Impacts Narrative

Describe a narrative you identified while researching the history of your historical event.
While researching the Eastham Windmill is about how technology has changed over time
and how it affects communities. The windmill used to be a grain mill a long time ago, and now it’s a historical landmark. This shows that technology can adapt and change. It also reminds us to keep and learn from old things, like the windmill, to help us deal with new challenges like sustainability and renewable energy. So, it’s a story about how technology evolves and how history can teach us valuable lessons for today. 2.
Articulate how biased perspectives presented in primary and secondary sources influence what is known or unknown about history.
In my primary and secondary sources, there doesn’t appear to be an overt demonstration of biased perspectives that would significantly impact the historical information presented. However, the source primarily proves a historical account of Thomas K Paine’s involvement in the construction and relocation of windmills in Cape Cod, particularly the Eastham Windmill. 3.
Identify the perspectives that you think are missing from your historical event’s narrative.
From my perspective, there is a notable absence of detailed information about the life and

Researching the historical roots of Eastham Windmill has deepened my understanding of the region’s commitment to renewable energy. Wind power today is deeply connected to the historical significance of structures like the Eastham Windmill. Both the Eastham Windmill and modern wind power exemplify Cape Cod’s commitment to harnessing the energy of the wind for sustainable purposes. While the Eastham Windmill historically ground grain, modern wind turbines generate electricity. Both events highlight the region’s shift towards cleaner and more environmentally responsible power sources to combat climate change and promote sustainability.

Questioning what I think and believe can be very helpful. For example, when it comes to wind power, we should think about how it affects the environment. Sometimes, wind turbines on land can be noisy, and those in the sea might disturb marine animals. Being historically informed helps us understand what’s happening today. It’s like having a map to navigate a new place. History shows how problems and solutions have evolved, giving us valuable lessons. This knowledge allows us to make wider choices, participate 4
