HIS 100 Module Five Activity Template: Historical Interpretations Replace the bracketed text below with your responses. Identify the topic you chose to explore: Tulsa Massacre Describe how exploring your research question improved your understanding of the historical roots of your current event. Exploring my research question improved my understanding of my topic by allowing me to see the event from different perspectives. Seeing my topic from different perspectives helped me understand why the different groups related to the event handled the situation as they did. The underlying racial roots that American society was experiencing at the time, according to numerous historical narratives of the Tulsa race massacre, are what caused the massacre to break out. Investigating if racism was the primary factor In the Tulsa race massacre was the research question that was considered in this study along with the aftereffects this massacre had on the residents in Tulsa Oklahoma. Explain how biased perspectives influence what is known about both your historical and current events. Knowing whether your sources are prejudiced is important when investigating a topic with racial motivation. A biased article can change the reader’s viewpoint. Readers from other backgrounds who attempt to examine these biased articles may be swayed to support one side of the debate instead of understanding the full picture because, as was already established, my topic is greatly influenced by race. Propose how the narrative about your historical event might change if it were told from a missing perspective. Historical accounts from absent perspectives may alter the details of the incident since the information the subject first got may have been distorted. If new information was to arise that Dick Rowland was guilty, then one may feel that the situation was justified. Propose how the narrative about your current event might change if it were told from a missing perspective. Sometimes an outside perspective can help speak to a broader audience. It can add to the depth, not only the parties involved but those indirectly affected.
