Trail of Tears Analysis
1.
Google the "Cherokee Nation History." In 1830, what was the Cherokee Nation like (where was it, how many Cherokee were there, did they have a governmental system and civilization of any kind, or were they, as Jackson noted, simply "a few savage hunters?". Be sure to cite what website(s) you are using in your answer.
➢
The Cherokee Nation was the North American Indians' independent tribal group, and they were America's politically incorporated groups. Almost 125,000 Native Americans lived on millions of acres of land, territories that their ancestors and family had occupied and cultivated for such a long time. At the start of the 1830s, The Cherokee used to live in the south-eastern United States (Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama). Despite popular assumption and as Jackson noted that Indians were "a few savage hunters," the Cherokee appeared to be the very first indigenous nations to embrace white culture. They were able to speak English and practice Christianity due to European influences.

What did Jackson mean, do you think, when he said the Cherokee could over time cast off their "savage habits and become an interesting, civilized, and Christian community?"
➢
I think what Jackson means that was, from his perspective, the Cherokee are savages, and his perception of Native Americans as a whole differed from theirs. As a result, Jackson considered the Cherokee as savages and a people without a legitimate government management structure. They will be rational and decent people after an amount of time of complying with the rules, so they will belong in society and he also desired to convert these people into the religion of Christianity. And for Jackson, he considered being Christian is the definition of being a good citizen.
