World War I was referred to as “the war to end all wars”, because of the
effect it had on the Central Powers and the Allied Powers. The devastation caused
by WWI was so severe that they believed it would cause the counties to refrain
from starting another war. At the time, World War I had the highest record of
casualties, destroyed empires, changed family dynamics because more than half of
the male population was lost, and led directly to Soviet Communism and the rise of
Hitler because Russia and Germany were left in shambles and in need of solutions.
The consequences of World War I are what led people to believe it was “the war to
end all wars”.
