The Pasteurization of France 2 The Pasteurization of France Latour authored the book “The Pasteurization of France” where he made references to Tolstoy’s novel “War and Peace.” While making this reference, Latour wanted to reiterate that complex relations and successes in the society were the results of a war, Latour believed that all the scientific innovations were related to a different form of war. Since the focus of his book was on scientific advancement in the field of biology where scientists were finding solutions to problems of diseases, it was essential to have a better understanding of this phenomenon. In this reference, Latour wanted to explain the fact that there is a relationship between many factors that lead to change (Latour, 1993). The successes of any war either on the battlefield or in the laboratory is the result of complex relationships that make this war a victory. An understanding of the association of these factors would have made it easier to understand the complex nature of scientific experiments. The reference made at the initial part of the book was essential in attributing the successes and failures of science to war. The reference made to the novel showed that Latour was explaining a scientific war which could meet with other wars at some point. Just like the war on the battlefield, scientific wars are also influenced by politics (Latour, 1993). The politics of any country demands that there is a healthy population. As such, science played a role in fighting diseases and promoting health. The success of any war is dependent on another form of war. As such, everything in society relates to one another in one way or the other. The reference, therefore, served to explain that different sectors in the society rely on one another in ways that could be complex to explain.
