EUR-UCE32-01 Child Routine Chart Current Version: 20/04/2022 Review Date: 20/04/2023 EIM Training Pty Ltd Page 1 Using Routines to Support Child Development and Relationships Routine Identify 1 way a child could be involved in this routine Identify 1 Intentional Teaching Strategy used by Educators to support development Identify 1 way you may support family and child’s cultural difference when implementing this routine Identify one area of development supported by this routine (Example ) Bathing - Discuss the bath and water - Recognise the sound of the bath - Plays in bath with toys- grasping objects floating past - Relaxes in bath - Scaffolding verbally and physically - Encouraging independence and decision making - Extending on children’s comments - Cultural differences – some cultures do not bath children everyday e.g. babies/small children are only bathed every 3-4 days. - Some families use different products when bathing children (e.g. being aware of what products the family uses/does not want to use). e.g. A vegan family does not want any animal products used, only plant based products - Social Development – children engage in communication with an adult during bathing. Adult will talk and sing with the child during this routine task. - Child may smile, laugh, make eye contact, move head to sounds of voices etc. Getting Ready for Sleep - Using wind down ritual- Example reading the child a story before bed and engage them within the story. This will help their brain wind down and get the body ready for sleep (if this ritual is used each night, the child will begin to understand the routine and know that it Is time for sleep - - Encouraging interpendance to follow the sleep ritual to make the transition to sleep time smooth - - Discussing with the family their sleep routine at home and following it while the child is in care - Discussing wth the families any comforters that may help the child to settle for sleep while in care Physical Wellbeing- Allowing children to rest when their body needs it, allows them to reach their full potential and be active
EUR-UCE32-01 Child Routine Chart Current Version: 20/04/2022 Review Date: 20/04/2023 EIM Training Pty Ltd Page 2 Mealtime s - Interdepedant - Allowing the child the opportunity to try and feed themselves - Discussing with the children the food that they are eating (speaking about healthy habits in meals) - Discussing what the meal is to incorporate new language and discussing eating habits eg, what’s healthy and what may be unhealthy to eat all the time Some cultures don’t allow for children to consume certain foods eg, some cultures don’t believe in consuming pork, some families are vegan meaning they don’t consume any animal products Physical Development- If the children are eating correctly and consuming nutritious foods, they are more likely to be happy, healthy and connected to others, reaching their full developmental potentional Nappy Changing - - Engaging with the child while you are changing their nappy (eg singing songs, going through the steps of the nappy change with the child so they know what is going to happen next - Encouraging the child to wash their hands after their nappy change - Discussing Hygiene with the child- explaining why we must wash our hands after our nappy change to prevent germs from spreading - Some families may choose to bring re usable nappies instead of using disposanle nappies Social Development- Children communicate with educators while getting their nappy changed (verbal and non verbal communication such as clapping hands, pointing, eye contact or physically talking if they are able too) Bottle Feeding - The child holding their own bottle while laying down to feed themselves Supproting Interdepance- Practicing to hold their own bottle to feed instead of relying on an adult to hold the bottle for them - Some cultures believe in breast feeding their child until they are a certain age Physical Development- Children benefit from bottle feeding (eg god nutrients comes from bottles, supporting healthy body)
EUR-UCE32-01 Child Routine Chart Current Version: 20/04/2022 Review Date: 20/04/2023 EIM Training Pty Ltd Page 3 Toileting - Being independent in undressing/ dressing themselves and flushing the toilet once they are finished - Supporting interdependence and decision making - Work with the families to support toileting eg if a child is beginning to toilet train discuss prompts to encourage the child to go to the toilet - Some cultures believe in using water to clean the bottom after toilet instead of toilet paper Physical Development- Supporting interdepdance and understanding their body and knowing when they need to go to the toilet
