The role of a teacher consists of several aspects, but the overarching one is to educate the students across the province of Ontario. They are in charge of looking out for students and helping them learn in the best way possible. Maintaining an ethical code that aligns with stakeholders' wants is super important. This paper will dig into what drives teachers to teach and what they owe to everyone involved in the learning journey. Teachers must be ethical when guiding students in learning by being impartial and fair to serve all students best. It is noted in Qualities of a Good Teacher that “It is important for teachers to have good ethical principles. Ethics is what tells us what is right and wrong and keeps us from doing things that are wrong.” (Bordia, 2020). Teachers must hold a high standard of ethics as students are still forming a moral code. If a teacher is unfair, it will only teach their students to view life through the same lens. With such an influential role as a teacher, it is crucial to exemplify what is right and wrong. All students come from different backgrounds, so maintaining the same ethics year-round is essential if we want students to absorb this standard. In Ontario, teachers are regulated by The Ontario College of Teachers (OCT), which mandates ethical standards. These standards aim to build trust among stakeholders and enhance educational confidence throughout the province. In 2016, the OCT introduced policy and program mandates encompassing modernized guidelines, including support for diverse learners, addressing the learning environment, and keeping school board information current. (Overview of policy, 2016). Stakeholders are people or entities who have invested in the interest of education. One example is the Ministry of Education, where the Premier establishes and offers direction and regulations, including budgetary allocations and grants for each school board. They guide the school board, manage problem-solving, and offer advice on pertinent matters (Public Education,

n.d). They oversee adherence to guidelines and finalize the curriculum from kindergarten to grade 12. The Ministry of Education holds significant influence in Ontario's educational landscape, with an expectation for teachers to uphold these guidelines, ensuring ethical teaching practices are uniform across the education systems in Ontario. (Ministry of Education, n.d). In summary, teachers adhere to numerous guidelines to assist students in their educational paths. Upholding ethical standards while guiding students is paramount. The guidance of stakeholders and policymakers significantly impacts teachers in fulfilling their role responsibly.
