To: Dr. Michelle Sidler From: Rahi Patel Subject: Proposal to research best fit Anesthesiology Assistant programs Purpose The purpose of my proposal is to request approval to research Anesthesiologist Assistant (AA) programs. The objective is to identify the best-fit schools for me to attend after graduating from Auburn University as a Biochemistry Major. The research will help me determine which schools meet my requirements and will aid in the application process next year.
Summary I plan to research the various medical schools with AA programs to determine if I would be a competitive candidate for admission. This approach will help me narrow down the schools I apply to, save money and time, and eliminate programs that I would not like to attend. To identify the programs, I would be a good fit for, I will research various components. Firstly, I will consider the cost of attendance, which includes tuition and fees, housing, transportation, meal/health plans, and other expenses for clinical rotations that would accompany each school. Additionally, I will research the likelihood of getting accepted based on prerequisite coursework GPA, letter of reference, direct patient care experience, Anesthesia/shadowing experience, community service/volunteer activities, leadership, and whether they prefer a rural background. Graduation rate, starting pay, and job retention will play a significant role in my decision-making
process. After completing the research, I will analyze the results and determine which school would be the best fit based on the previous areas of research. I will then prepare a report and presentation on my findings.
Introduction
The objective of my research is to identify the Anesthesiologist Assistant programs that align with my needs and preferences, which will help me to streamline the application process and minimize the financial and time burden associated with applying to multiple schools. With most schools requiring essays, recommendation letters, transcripts, and application fees it is important to understand which schools would most align with my needs and vision. The purpose of this proposal is to get approval to research the available AA programs to simplify which ones are worth applying to ultimately determine my top choice. This research will reduce the time and money on programs that are undesirable or may be out of reach I spend applying significantly thus allowing me to focus on improving my application and preparing for interviews for the schools I am most interested in. This research is important to me as I am currently in the process of applying for AA programs after completing my undergraduate degree at Auburn University. Attending a medical school program plays a crucial role in my career opportunities as an anesthesiologist assistant.

The research will mainly rely on online resources, particularly the websites of medical schools that offer AA programs. These sources will provide statistics on the background of students, admissions, and graduation rates. To gain more personal insights, interviews with current medical students who have recently been accepted will be conducted, and LinkedIn connections will be made. The research will be categorized based on factors such as cost, attainability, and post-graduation success rates. Lastly, the results will be compiled and delivered in a report in addition to a presentation. Proposed Tasks
Upon approval, I will perform the tasks listed to complete the research and ultimately decide which medical school’s AA program would be the best fit Task 1. Identify the top three to four schools with AA programs whose visions align with my
interests and background.
Throughout my undergraduate studies, I undertook a rigorous double major program in Chemical
Engineering and Biochemistry, with a specialization in Genetics. However, I am now seeking to further my career prospects by pursuing a Master's degree in Anesthesia. To identify the most suitable schools for my chosen field, I plan to conduct extensive research and focus on those that are highly ranked. I will consult a range of reputable online sources, as well as relevant magazines or application guides, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the top institutions in
this field.
Task 2. Research the cost of attending each school. When researching the cost of attending each school, I will be focusing on tuition (in-state versus out-of-state if there is a difference) and rent of apartments. I will also incorporate expected transportation costs and other expenses such as books or insurance fees. More importantly, I will focus on the cost of housing clinical rotations and whether it is covered by the program already. This research will be completed mostly through online sources. School websites, websites with information on the cost of living for the representative cities, and student brochures that contain estimated medical school expenses will all be used. Task 3. Research the attainability of getting accepted into each medical program. I am trying to determine my competitiveness as an applicant and my chances of getting accepted into different schools. To assess the attainability of each school, I will be looking at statistics listed on program websites or sources that compile admission statistics for multiple schools in the form of brochures. I will be examining if MCAT scores are required, GPA ranges, the number
of recommendation letters, preferred research experience hours, typical shadowing and volunteer
hours, as well as the percentage and preference of in-state or out-of-state acceptances at each school. Additionally, I will conduct further research by interviewing recently accepted students or by connecting with them on LinkedIn to gain insight into the most influential factors for admissions.

Task 4. Research national certification program outcome statistics for starting base pay in each medical program When evaluating the starting pay for each AA program, it is crucial to examine the pass rate of the National Certification Exam and the job placement rate. To conduct a comprehensive analysis of each program's outcome, I will focus on the demand for Anesthesia providers in the surrounding areas of each campus. Selecting a school with clinical rotations at the highest-paying
healthcare facilities can help establish professional connections and future job opportunities, as clinical rotations are typically based on location and distance. Task 5. Analyze research. To select the most suitable institution for my academic pursuit, I have established specific criteria. In particular, I am looking for an institution that offers a low overall cost, maintains high
standards of academic excellence, and is located in an area where there is a high demand for anesthesia providers. I believe that these factors will enable me to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the field of anesthesia.
Task 6. Prepare final
report. My final report will be a comprehensive document that will showcase all of my research and analysis. It will contain information about my thought process in determining my top school choice. I will explain in detail the reasons why I selected that school over other options. The report will also include supporting evidence and data to justify my decision. Task 7. Present findings and number one school. I will be presenting my findings and the top-ranked school through either a voice-over PowerPoint or a Zoom video recording. The presentation will cover all the major areas of research, highlight the most significant results of each school, and show the analysis process that
led to my final choice of the number one school.
