Assignment 1 1 Assignment 1 Ashley Hart Central State University Nathan Boles October 15, 2023
Assignment 1 2 Assignment 1 Early Childhood Education Duties: 1. Teaching daily routines. 2. Creating lesson plans that are age appropriate. 3. Monitoring children in educational activities. 4. Evaluating progress and development of children. 5. Ensuring the safety of the children. 6. Develop and initiate parent education activities. 7. Coordinate the work of instructional paraprofessionals, parent volunteers and other volunteers. 8. Participate in staff development activities. 9. Support the social and emotional growth of children. 10. Composing detailed reports for parents. Collaborating with different educators can support student success and provide support for teachers. When educators from different fields work together and assist each other, it shows collaboration and teamwork. “Sharing expertise stimulates productivity and growth as colleagues collaborate and consult with peers in their areas of special abilities.” (Knackendoffel, Dettmer, & Thurston, 2017. Pg. 5). Although the different fields will have different duties, they share a common goal for educational growth for educators and students. Thus, the expertise from all collaborators is crucial. Based on my field of study, Early Childhood Education (ECE), compared to other fields the difference in duties could be characterized as the age of the students, different workplaces,
Assignment 1 3 different skills being taught, and difference in educational requirements needed. For example, ECE works with children from birth to preschool age whereas other teachers (primary, middle, and young adult) would work with older students. Another difference of duties in ECE, compared to an Intervention Specialist in Special Education, ECE focuses on providing basic education that can allow a child to grow, learn, and develop a safe and nurturing environment. Whereas Intervention Specialists assess children’s individual needs in the general education classroom. When educators collaborate with other educators this supports the educational growth of students and teachers. “Interestingly, when working together, teachers seem better prepared to support one another’s strengths and accommodate weaknesses.” (Knackendoffel, Dettmer, & Thurston, 2017. Pg. 25). Growth can be supported by other educators from observing and learning from each other. This impacts their ability to work together on curriculum and instruction which boosts their confidence in the classroom. The collaboration between educators contributes to school improvement and student success. Therefore, collaboration supports students’ educational growth because when educators work jointly, such as the special education teacher and general education teacher, it can reduce referrals for special education services and more time can be spent on teaching. (Knackendoffel, Dettmer, & Thurston, 2017. Pg. 25). Also, educational growth for students could improve by reducing the labels stereotyped in special education students. Students would be able to learn in a general education setting, while receiving special education services. Overall, collaborating with different educators can help students develop higher-level thinking skills, boost their confidence and self-esteem, and improve social and interpersonal
