What are your expectations from the collaboration with the dietitian, case manager,
oncologist, and pharmacist in your case study?
Collaboration with dietitian
: Expectations of the dietitian are;
o
determine body weight and length/height norm for age or find out what the child’s
pretreatment measurements were to determine goal to work toward.
o
Determine child’s food preferences and provide favorite foods as able to increase the
likelihood that the child will consume adequate amounts of foods.
o
Administer antiemetics as ordered to increase the likelihood that the child will retain the
food he or she ingests.
o
Weigh child daily or weekly (according to physician order or institutional standard) and
measure length/height weekly to monitor for growth.
o
Offer highest-calorie meals at the time of day when the child’s appetite is the greatest to
increase likelihood of increased caloric intake.
o
Provide increased-calorie shakes or puddings within diet restriction: high-calorie foods
increase weight gain.
o
Administer vitamin and mineral supplements as prescribed to attain/maintain vitamin
and mineral balance in the body.
o
Administer total parenteral nutrition and intravenous lipids as ordered to provide
adequate nutrition for healing (Ricci, 2021).
Collaboration with case manager
:
The case manager will coordinate the various aspects
of the child's care. They will work closely with the healthcare team, the child's family,
and other service providers to ensure that all necessary services and resources are
accessed and integrated effectively. This may include arranging appointments,
coordinating follow-ups, assisting with financial resources, and providing emotional
support to the family, coordination with appropriate home care services if needed.
(Hinkle, 2021).
Collaboration with oncologist:
Expectations of care of the Oncologist are, laboratory
testing such as, CBC with differential; hemogram, RBC count, Hemoglobin, hematocrit,
platelet count, serum ferritin, hemoglobin electrophoresis, blood type and crossmatch.
Diagnostic tests like Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, Lumbar puncture, Magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI), Computed tomography (CT) scan. Medical treatments
including, radiology therapy, chemotherapy, Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation,
supplemental oxygen, leukapheresis, recommendation of palliative care or enrollment in
a clinical trial (Ricci, 2021).
Collaboration with pharmacist:
The pharmacist expectations include ensuring safe and
appropriate medication management. The pharmacist will review the child's medical
history and any current medications to prevent any potential drug interactions, also will
work closely with the healthcare team to dispense the prescribed medications
accurately, educate the child's family on proper administration, and monitor for any
adverse drug reactions (Ricci, 2021).
