Written Assessment (Errors) – 20 points
Objective:
Students will watch a video of the four lower-body lifts. These videos will demonstrate the incorrect
performance of each lift. Identify at least
four errors in each video and provide a correction for each one. For each error and correction, please underline or highlight the word. (See example below). Write in complete sentences.
Example paragraph:
I identified four errors in the bench press video. Error #1
:
The lifter positioned himself on the bench so that the barbell was in line with his chin. Correction #1
:
Cue the lifter to move his body further down on the bench so the barbell is in line with his forehead or slightly above the eyes. Error #2
:
The lifter’s feet were not placed firmly on the ground; he was positioned on his toes. Correction #2
:
Cue the lifter to place both feet firmly on the ground for increased foot drive and force production. Error #3:
During the eccentric phase, the lifter lowered the barbell to the base of the neck. Correction #3
:
Cue the lifter to lower the barbell so it lightly taps the chest at the nipple line. Error #4:
The lifter tended to extensively arch his lower
back during the upward concentric phase. Correction #4:
Cue the lifter to contract his abdominals and press his lower back firmly into the bench (the space between the bench and the back should be no larger than the size of one’s hand).
Video #1: Back Squat
Please write a paragraph identifying the errors that occurred and how to correct them.
I identified four errors in the back squat video. Error #1
:The lifter do not lower himself enough to where his femurs were parallel with the floor. He did not hit ninety degrees. Correction #1
: Cue the lifter to point his toes outward about twenty to thirty degrees to help him comfortably go lower. Error #2
: The lifter got to a certain point and then lowered his chest. It was not all one motion. Correction #2
: Cue the lifter to keep his cervical spine in a neutral position all throughout the ROM. Error 3
: On the way up, the lifter shot his hips up first and then his chest. Correction #3
: Cue the lifter to make sure their hips and shoulders rise simultaneously. Error #4
: The lifter had his feet a little too wide. This made it difficult to go all the way to parallel with the floor. Correction #4
: Cue the lifter to make sure his feet are about hip width apart.
Video #2: Front Squat
Please write a paragraph identifying the errors that occurred and how to correct them.
In the front squat video, I identified four errors. Error #1
: The bar was racked very high, which made the lifter unrack the bar and then place it on herself. Correction #1
: Cue the lifter to have the bar on her anterior deltoids and clavicle prior to lifting the bar off the rack.
Error #2
: The lifter’s knees caved in creating what is called valgus. Correction #2
:Cue the lifter to drive through her feet keeping her knees in line with her toes on the concentric phase. Error #3
: The lifter bent at the knees first. Correction #3
: Cue lifter to send but back before trying to bend at the knees. Error #4
: When the lifter’s knees caved in so did her elbows. Correction #4
: Cue lifter to raise elbows so the humerus is in line with the transverse plane.
Video #3: Deadlift
Please write a paragraph identifying the errors that occurred and how to correct them.
In the deadlift video, I identified four errors. Error #1
: The lifter had their bar positioned way too far away from them on the ground. Correction #1
: Cue the lifter to start with the bar
over the middle of their feet. Error #2
: The lifter had their back rounded. Correction #2
: Cue
the lifter to raise their chest, slightly retracting their scapula. Error #3:
The barbell was too far away from his legs so he lifted it and then pulled it onto his thighs. Correction #3
: Cue the lifter to either keep the bar as close as possible to himself or even drag the bar against his legs. Error #4
: The lifter is not breathing correctly if at all during the lift. Correction #4
: Cue the lifter to make sure to breathe on the eccentric phase.
Video #4: Romanian Deadlift
Please write a paragraph identifying the errors that occurred and how to correct them.
I found four errors on the rdl videor. Error #1
:The lifter’s feet are too far apart. Correction #1
:Cue the lifter to have her feet slightly wider than hip width apart. Error #2
: The lifter is going too low. Correction #2
: The lifter only needs to go down to mid shin at the very lowest.
Error #3
: The lifter does not have her head and back lined up. Correction #3
: Cue the lifter to retract her scapula and lock her lumbar spine in extension. Cue her to keep her head aligned with her spine (body). Error #4
: She stopped pushing her hips backward and lowered her torso instead. Correction #4
: Cue her to push her hips back and continue to push her hips back. That is how the bar will lower, not by her chest and torso going down.
