Health Care Accreditation It is important to achieve accreditation for a healthcare organization. Any healthcare organization can achieve and maintain accreditation through the Joint Commission or the National Committee for Quality Assurance. Accreditation is important for a healthcare organization because it helps ensure that the organization has access to specific training, materials, data, and equipment (Impact of Accreditation, 2020). A healthcare organization must perform assessments, policies, and techniques to obtain a accreditation from the Joint Commission or the National Committee for Quality Assurance. There are approximately two known accreditation agencies, the Joint Commission on Accreditation Health Care (JCAHO) and the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAHC). When it comes to applying for accreditation it is important to establish the purpose of the accreditation agency and how it will support the organization. It is vital to not only find the importance of the accreditation agencies, but it is also important to find out how the agency will benefit patients. Accreditation Accreditation is a thoughtful program that is supported by a non-governmental organization (Alkhenzian & Shaw, 2011). Trained personnel observe and evaluate healthcare organizations to ensure they are meeting external peer reviewers (Alkhenzian & Shaw, 2011). Trained personnel also evaluate the healthcare organizations accordance and performance standards (Alkhenzian & Shaw, 2011). There are two known accreditations governing health care organizations known as the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare. The purpose of the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations is to prioritize patient safety and to organize the organization. This will ensure patient confidence when they are receiving care by ensuring they are receiving
quality treatment and obtain adequate services. The Joint Commission of Accreditation improves risk management and risk reduction by educating all healthcare professionals (Why achieve, n,d.). The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare is responsible for providing peripheral. It allows healthcare organizations to recognize standards, policies, processes, procedures, and outcomes. By using voluntary, peer-based, and education process, allows the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare to ensure quality of care is improving throughout a healthcare organization (Patients/AAAHC, 2021). All accreditation agencies are responsible for providing all appropriate healthcare organizations with education and evaluation to ensure they are meeting all requirements for standards and procedures for patient care. Maintenance of Accreditation The Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations accredits approximately 22,000 healthcare organizations (Facts about Joint Commission, n.d.). The Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare does accreditations for hospitals, home care, nursing homes, behavioral health, ambulatory care, and laboratory services. The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Care accredits approximately 6,000 healthcare organizations (Accreditation Association, 2021). The healthcare organizations that obtain accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Care is surgery centers, community centers, medical groups, dental groups, home healthcare, managed care, and Indian health centers (Accreditation Associations, 2021). Accreditation and Reaccreditation The Joint Commission accreditation/certification is not mandatory. The accreditation is voluntary by any healthcare organization. The accreditation/certification is awarded to healthcare

organizations for approximately three years. Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare accreditation is responsible for displaying how committed a healthcare organization is to providing safe quality care to its patients. A licensure is when a license is obtained in a healthcare organization for their healthcare professionals and patients. A healthcare organization can only obtain a licensure by a government licensing agency (What is accreditation, 2020). Licensure is important in healthcare because it ensures that standards are set, and only qualified professionals are working for the healthcare organization (Apaana, 2023). A licensure plays a vital role in upholding the integrity of healthcare services (Apaana, 2023). Licensure It is important that the healthcare organization meets the specific requirements to obtain a license. This means that the organization must meet a certain academic degree and must obtain a qualifying grade on the state exams (What is accreditation, 2020). The primary goal for accreditation is to ensure that a healthcare organization can maintain standards and procedures. When a healthcare organization is accredited, it shows that the organization is trusted and reliable. When a healthcare organization is accredited, it gives healthcare professionals the ability to show commitment, separate themselves from other competitors, and encourage improvement (What is accreditation, 2020). Conclusion A license lays the groundwork for a healthcare organization’s administration quality of care for their patients and consumers. There are imperative guidelines that a healthcare organization must
follow to ensure they keep their accreditation and licensing. It is important that the healthcare organization elevates the standards of quality care and the overall competency for their patients. The accreditation agencies provide specific resources for the healthcare organization to follow to ensure they are improving and maintain quality care. Reference Page Alkhenizan, A., & Shaw, C.
