With little information to go on pertaining to the client failing twice to complete the 12 step program, I would first set up a meeting with the client to get a better understanding to their life struggles, history, and etc just so I can provide more productive and management for the client thus using the SMART objective (Stevens,2017) because this will help understand the client and the reason for the failures.  The reason being is because if this client has failed to complete these steps due to religious reasons, and this client feels uncomfortable I want to understand the roots to that. If this is because they feel uncomfortable or embarrassed for other reasons such as not wanting to be near the opposite sex or they are more comfortable with the LGBTQ than I want to find and refer them to programs that can fit their comfort-ability. If its because of lack of time then I want to refer to what would work better for the client. There could be several other factors, but let's say this is pertaining to not wanting to be near any male figures. Then I would like to refer them to Women for sobriety which is for women of all inclusivity (WFS,2023). The program will provide empowerment of all types of women, and those struggling with SUDs .  Also, using MET therapy for the individual to provide further motivation and feedback incorporating change talk therapy, to provide stronger support to the client as well. While in MET it also uses the MI feedback to help strengthen the clients support and commitment to treatment and planning (Stevens,2017). This will help the counselor set a better plan the client can commit to. This will be more effective because it has been used when a client has already failed and helped them get back on track at their pace. This will help reduce symptoms, anxiety, and sensitivity (Stevens, 2017, chapter 7). Although there are outside resources such as family and friends, the client still needs the support and accommodation that best fits their needs and values to continue to commit to the programs or a program that best fits them. We cannot just assume one shoe fits all, but to continue to stay open minded and be aware of alternative programs such as stated earlier as LGBTQ, or woman SUD only programs, and many other types of programs that could really help different types of clients that would best fit their comfortable and have greater chances in the success of their program completion because they feel the support and comfort-ability in the programs, and continue to have regular follow ups for that reassurance because many still struggling and coming off are in a fragile state (CTU Online, 2024).  References: 1.
