1 Reflection: Positive Energy Conference for Eco-Centric Healthcare . Your name Institutional affiliation Course Date
2 Reflection . Positive Energy Conference for Eco-Centric Healthcare was held over Zoom meeting. Even though the outbreak of COVID-19 brought devastating impacts on the global health and economy, it also fostered innovations on better ways get things done. Institutions had to move their services to fully online and use video conferencing technologies such as Zoom to supplement real-time communication. The platform is a reliable communication tool and I did enjoy using it. Generally, I did find the platform and the whole process very interactive. Several aspects revolving around eco-wellness healthcare were presented during the conference. Eco-wellness in healthcare presents an innovative, challenging and empowering approach to facilitate a sustainable future for the people and environment which they inhibit, focusing beyond positivistic solutions and expectations, towards a more independent eco-centric approach. This approach to healthcare is driven by the principles of holism, wellness, and a reflexive and sustainable eco-culture. The main objective of this approach is to help the people to understand how sustaining their environment and wellness is important. The conference advocated for the change from the traditional healthcare model through revision of focus on attitudes, roles, contexts and actions of nurses. Based on the recent extremes of weather changes, it is evident that climate changes may make the world inevitable. One of these impacts is the extreme temperatures which arises from increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide which traps more outgoing infrared radiations. This is why everyone recognizes the need for environmental justice. Every individual has to make a meaningful involvement for fair treatment of the environment through the enforcement of environmental laws. No group of individuals should bear environmental consequences that
3 results from industrial, government, and commercial operations or policies. Every individual reserves a fair chance of living the healthiest life possible. Other effects of environmental pollutions are damaging. For example, exposure to chronic air pollution decreases cognitive function. It also increases the risk of developing several forms of dementia. Air pollution is also responsible for prematurity and low infant birth weight. Health effects associated with the increasing levels of pollution include cardiovascular, pulmonary and neurological effects. These implications highlight the level of responsibility which we owe the environment. All sectors that increases the emission of carbon must be looked into to identify the possible ways in which they can be reduced. Healthcare has not been sidelined in the discussion. The conference also highlighted how healthcare contributes to climate change by releasing greenhouse gases in the process of delivering care and producing technologies and products from carbon-intensive supply chain. Healthcare as well contributes to emission of carbon to the environment through consumption of energy, logistics and manufacture of products, use of products, and disposal. In the light of these findings and the need to reduce carbon footprints, hospitals have been urged to become eco-friendlier. The benefits of this move are outstanding, some of them include safer patients, reduced operation costs and less west fullness. This is a significant step considering that clinicians are often left apart in the discussion regarding environmental decisions. It is interesting to also find out that some of the clinicians are also taking a step towards improving the environmental conditions. Clinical groups like the ES Clinical Group have reduced carbon emissions by a significant percentage by reducing business travel and saved on operation cost by reducing unaesthetic agents. The group is also advocating

4 for healthy climate policy through state and local governments including the Biden’s administration. Hospitals are realizing the need to become eco-friendlier by reducing medical wastes and SUDs to landfills. Low-flow fixtures helps in conserving water and hospitals also have to convert to renewable energy to reduce pollution and the adverse impacts of global warming. The use of green-certified cleaning products also everts the dangers of exposure to toxic substances. The conference highlights that it is everybody’s responsibility to care for the environment for the future generation.
