8-1 Assignment: Client Results Bob is a 34-year-old Caucasion male who was referred by his Department of Rehabilitation caseworker for an evaluation. He was administered the WASI-2 and the WRAT-4. Summary of Results Hello Bob! Today we are going to be reviewing your scores from the Weschler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence 2 (WASI-2) and the Wide Range Achievement Test 4 (WRAT-4). You had achieved a Full-Scale IQ Score (FSIQ-4) within the average range, which means that your cognitive abilities are similar to those of your same-aged peers. This indicates that you have the brain-based skills to complete any task regardless of its complexity. Your verbal Comprehension Index score fell within the average range demonstrating that you have adequate knowledge of English word definitions and verbal reasoning, this includes the ability to tell similarities and differences between objects or concepts. Your Perceptual Reasoning score fell within the average range as well, meaning you have a good understanding of how to examine a problem, organize your thoughts, create solutions, and then test these possible solutions. However, your visual-spatial skills fell within the low average range meaning you could have difficulty with abstract concepts and analyzing visual information and details. Your nonverbal problem-solving abilities are within the average range, meaning you can comprehend the world around you without the use of words. Your Reading Composite score, which combines your Word Reading and Sentence Comprehension scored within the average range as well meaning that you can easily identify letters and recognize words. This also shows you have the ability to gain meaning from words as well as comprehend ideas and information from sentences even if words are missing. The tests did find that your Spelling Skills fell within the borderline range as well as your Math Computation skills resulted in the low average range, which may mean you
have difficulties in tasks and problems related to math and spelling. You should also be aware that despite how beneficial these tests and their results are, they can often fail to take into account other factors that can distort the results such as confusion, carelessness, or clinical defensiveness, and therefore you may benefit from additional testing in the future if you were interested. Summary of Recommendations Based on the test results and the follow-up analysis, there are some different recommendations that could be made to help improve your situation and your overall cognitive functioning. To improve your spelling skills, there are numerous methods that could be used including vowel sound spelling strategies, syllable breaking tactics, double ruling, use a “look, say, cover; write, check, fix technique,” all which have been proved to aid spelling skill abilities. In regard to your mathematical skills, using game-based learning methods to keep your interest in math would be beneficial. Another suggestion would be to practice breaking down complex math problems into smaller ones as well as try to relate real-life situations to complexities of math problems. To improve your visual spatial skills, it is recommended that you engage in activities such as puzzles, origami, tangram puzzles, and memory games. By improving one of these categories, it has the potential to automatically improve the other skills that you present weaknesses in.
