For this assignment, I decided to choose the article “Landslides Studied by Japan
Researchers”. The field of study could be a combination of multiple things, but I will focus on
natural hazards. The primary argument that the article is making is that heavy rainfall or
earthquakes will cause landslides to occur in higher frequency. The supporting evidence comes
from data pulled from Izumozaki and Tochio, when measuring the heavy rainfall against the
number of landslides occurring close to the dates of the heavy rain. Along with this, the
information pulled for the earthquake in Yamakoshi, where large quantities of landslides
occurred afterwards (ESRI, 2008). When looking at the efficacy of the research, you can see very
strong correlations between their data for heavy rain and earthquakes, compared to landslides
occurring soon after the events.
