HOMEWORK #2 - OCS 2011 (Fall 2023) DUE: Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 9:00am Graded out of 100 - Worth 10% of total grade (25% of Homework Grade) All files should be packed within one zipped folder using the file naming format Lastname_Firstname_OCS2011_HW02 Part 1 (50 points) Two files containing water level and meteorological data from January 2019 are available on the Moodle. The data are collected from NOAA Tides & Current site 8764314 at Eugene Island. Use these files to create two graphs: 1) A comparison between the predicted and measured water levels for the month of January. Plot both data sets on a single plot against time. 2) A summary of meteorological information including: wind speed (m/s), air temperature (C), air pressure (mb), and humidity. Use subpanels in one figure for each variable of interest. Plot each variable against time. (This means 4 subfigures!) Use the data measured at 6-minute intervals and do not perform any averaging. For the meteorological information, include everything on a single figure with four subplots, one for each of the pieces of information listed in 2). Add axis labels for each but do not include titles. Use a legend where appropriate. TIP: The time and date values in data file with the water level data (CO- OPS_8764314_wl_EugeneIsland.xlsx) are difficult to work with. The data are recorded at the same times and dates as the data in the meteorological file (CO- OPS_8764314_met_EugeneIsland.xlsx). I would recommend loading in the time data from the meteorological file and assign it to a variable. Then, use that variable for time for all the data. You can assign it to a DATETIME variable for ease of use. Use a Matlab script file (*.m file) to create the plot programmatically. Use your knowledge of editing labels, colors, line widths, etc. to create a visually appealing plot. Save your figure as a .jpeg or .png file. Submit the jpeg or png and the matlab script in a zipped folder to the Moodle Assignment link. To get full credit, I will need to be able to run your script and produce the figure on my computer, so please make sure you lay everything out programmatically in your Matlab script. Please use the following naming convention for each file and for the zipped folder: Lastname_firstname_OCS2011_HW02_Eugene
Part 2 (50 Points) In this part of the homework, you will be plotting some wind data from Hurricane Dorian. I’ve downloaded data (CO-OPS_8721604_met_TridentPier.csv) from the NOAA station near Trident Pier, Port Canaveral, FL for 08/26/2019 until 09/07/2019. Create a figure displaying the wind speed and direction. On the same plot include the gust speed as a red dot for each time step. Plot the wind speed with a blue line, then use the skills learned in class to make equally-sized vectors displaying the directions of the wind at each measurement. Use a white background for the figure and be sure to include a legend. Please use the following naming convention for each file and for the zipped folder: Lastname_firstname_OCS2011_HW02_Trident
