REFLECTIVE JOURNAL FOR
WEEK 1
Although I've always been a fervent supporter of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),
after finishing the first week of the Sustainable Management course, I felt guilty about how
much of an ecological footprint I had left. When it came to putting sustainable practices into
action to better the state of our world, it became clear that I had been all talk and no action.
My environmental impact was low before I came to this realization, which made me take an
honest look at myself and resolve to improve. I made the decision to begin by concentrating
on reaching a sizable level of accessible and clean energy utilization.
I went through the necessity of shutting off lights and appliances when not in use with my
housemates to lessen energy usage and its damaging impact on the environment.
In addition, I decided to switch out standard light bulbs for energy-efficient ones as a
practical action towards using renewable energy.
In addition, I made use of the relationships I had to speak with our landlady about the
possibility of installing solar electricity in our flat. She agreed with the concept and gave me
the assurance that she would get fair quotes for adding solar panels to the home.
In the final analysis, it is imperative that we all take responsibility for our world and follow
practical sustainable practices to make it a better place.
REFLECTIVE JOURNAL FOR WEEK 2: TOWARDS
SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT
.
As I read through the course materials for Week 2: Sustainable Management, I found myself
curious and enthusiastic about last week's lecture because of how broad the subject is and
how critical it is today. Last week's presentation offered a strong foundation for my
understanding of the complex interaction of environmental, social, and economic aspects
that determine sustainability.
One crucial lesson from Week 2 is that sustainability is a multidimensional term with deep
historical roots. From the early Industrial Revolution to contemporary international
initiatives like the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs), sustainability has evolved and become crucial for the health of our planet.
I appreciate that the three facets of sustainability—economic, social, and environmental—
are being highlighted. It goes without saying that, besides environmental protection,
fostering social fairness and guaranteeing economic viability are crucial elements of
sustainability.
The Triple Bottom Line (TBL) idea, which emphasizes that businesses must now consider
their environmental and social effects in addition to profitability, is one with which I agree.
One of today's most pressing sustainability challenges is climate change. Recent news
reports have highlighted extreme weather occurrences like record-breaking heatwaves,
hurricanes, and wildfires. These occurrences demonstrate the importance of global
measures to combat climate change, which are in accordance with the Paris Agreement's
goals to reduce global warming.
My lesson from last week provided me with a thorough schedule for the semester. I'm eager
to get more understanding about sustainability, appreciate how it influences business, and
mature into a more thoughtful and informed member of society.
