3 Total = $53.99 with savings of $12.91 2) The Total cost of my grocery list for one week was $53.99 , I was truly surprised at the total cost as it was way higher than I thought it would be. After reflecting, I do not believe this will be a sustainable way of living because a lot of the items on my list are a lot of processed foods rather than local and fresh foods. This also made me realize why I hadn’t been feeling healthy and I always felt lazy. This is because items such as bread or junk food lack the nutrients, proteins and vitamins that we could get in more fresh foods. Additionally, more sustainable goods have smaller carbon footprints as opposed to processed foods. Moreover, grocery shopping for $53.99 per week was higher than I thought but pricing for groceries has become more costly, as well as the cost of living, overall. In conclusion l, this virtual activity was quiet a surprising experience in finding out the total cost of this grocery list was way higher than I assumed and from now onwards I believe that buying more whole fresh foods items such as more locally grown fruits and vegetables will make my grocery shopping experience more sustainable overall. 3) Food prices in southern Ontario may generally be lower compared to northern communities across Canada. This is due to factors such as transportation costs, availability of local produce, and economies of scale. According to a report by the Northern Policy Institute, food prices in northern communities tend to be higher due to the higher costs of transportation and limited access to fresh produce. The report also highlights that northern communities often rely on air or winter road shipments, which can be more expensive and less reliable compared to trucking routes in southern regions. Additionally, the shorter growing season in northern areas can limit the availability of locally grown produce, leading to a greater reliance on imported goods. However, it's important to note that food prices can vary within regions, and factors such as store competition and local initiatives can also influence pricing. 4)I was completely unaware that Laurier's Northdale campus in Waterloo has a Community Garden. It sounds like a fantastic initiative to combat food insecurity and promote sustainability. I'd love to know more about this space. How can students get involved with the Community Garden? Are there opportunities for them to volunteer, learn about gardening, or even harvest fresh produce? It would be great if students could actively participate in maintaining the garden, learn about sustainable gardening practices, and have the chance to enjoy the fruits (or veggies) of their labor by harvesting and using the produce.
