Lab #3: Nuclear Power Plant Field Trip
1.
What is the difference between low-level and high-level radioactive waste?
The difference between low-level and high-level radioactive waste is that
High-level waste is the used fuel that has been extracted from the reactors
after creating electricity. Low-level is from other reactors in medical,
academic, industrial, and other commercial uses. Another difference is the
time it takes for the waste to be deemed safe. For high-level radioactive
waste, it takes way more time to become safe.
2.
Which country (not geographic region or continent) added the greatest
number (2) of nuclear power plants to the grid in 2004?
Ukraine
3.
Where (in what cities, states) are the four NRC regional headquarters
located?
Northeast- King of Prussia, Pennsylvania; Southeast- Atlanta, Georgia;
Northern Midwest- Lisle, Illinois; Southern Midwest and west- Arlington,
Texas.
4.
In the decommissioning of the Yankee-Rowe nuclear power plant, to what
facility (name and city, state) were the six large components sent?
They were sent to the Chem-Nuclear Site in Barnwell, South Carolina.
5.
What does radioactive waste disposal have to do with the Skull Valley
Goshutes? Is there a term to describe this action (what is it)?
The Native Americans agreed to use the land as Private Fuel Storage.
