a. I am doing my podcast on transportation and climate change. I will be arguing that different modes of transportation do have an impact on climate change. I would like to focus on which modes of transportation are the best to help against climate change and which are the worst. I would also like to focus a little bit on how these different types of transportation can have an impact and why it is important to make changes to transportation patterns. b. This has connections to a researchable issue because there has been research done on how different modes of transportation can affect climate change. The results show that certain types of transportation, like walking or biking, are better than others, like driving a car. Research has also been done to see what would happen if climate change is not slowed down. The results from this research show us that not slowing climate change will have a drastic impact on the planet. Climate change will always happen, but humans have increased the speed of climate change. There is, however, still time for us to make changes that can slow it. c. Climate change is an issue that affects everyone, not just people in one city or one country. If changes aren’t made to slow climate change, there will be many negative impacts, including impacts on wildlife, agricultural production, and weather patterns. Animals and their habitats will be destroyed, problems with agricultural production will lead to food shortages, and changes to weather patterns means that severe storms, floods, and droughts will be more common. Everyone will see the effects of climate change, and everyone will have to deal with them. If the issue of climate change is not talked about, some people might not understand just how serious it is, and they may not make changes to help slow climate change.
d. By the end of my podcast episode, I want my audience to understand that some modes of transportation are better for the environment than others. Another thing I want my audience to understand is that making small changes to transportation habits can help make an impact in slowing climate change. I would also like for my audience to understand what makes some types of transportation better than others. I hope that I will be able to educate people on the importance of slowing climate change. e. I am interested in this topic because I have always been very interested in meteorology/storm chasing and climate change goes along with that because of how it impacts weather patterns. Even when I was younger I wanted to be a meteorologist and work with the National Weather Service. Back in December of 2021, there was a tornado outbreak that partially occurred in western Kentucky, which is where I am from. Tornado outbreaks are very uncommon in the winter months, but a tornado outbreak of that severity is basically unheard of in December. Much of the discussion after this tornado outbreak was about climate change. Many people are worried that severe weather outbreaks like this will become more common if something is not done about climate change. I was able to see the impacts from this tornado outbreak immediately after it happened. I don’t want anyone to have to go through a tornado like that, and I don’t want tornado outbreaks like this one to happen more frequently than they already do. Obviously we can never stop tornadoes or other severe weather events, but we can do things to slow climate change to prevent severe weather events from becoming more and more common. If I can make even just one person make small changes to help slow climate change then I want to do that.
