6.Chamaecyparis thyoides 'Red Star'
1.
Chamaecyparis thyoides ‘Red Star’
2.
This cultivar is phenotypically different from its species-type in the seasonal color of its foliage. It is especially known for its plum purple foliage in winter that is brighter and richer in color than its species type typically is. ‘Red Star’ also has silvery blue new foliage in spring, that turns to a green blue foliage in summer. 3.
The cultural difference of this cultivar from its species-type is that it tends to be smaller at maturity. The species-type is estimated to be about 40-50 feet tall at maturity and this cultivar is estimated to mature between 10-20 feet tall. 4.
This cultivar is a great plant to use in a border or as an accent plant.
