DG Time #2: Stand Up Sit Down Debrief (30 Min)
Fish Camp 2022 DG Activity Stand Up Sit Down Debrief / What’s In a Name?
Activity Description: 1.
Ask the following reflection questions/facilitate discussion within your DG: a.
What were your feelings during this activity?
b.
Were there times when you felt good about standing up or raising your hand? Were there times
when you felt uncomfortable standing up or raising your hand?
c.
Were there times when it was difficult to stand/raise your hand, or when you chose not to stand when you could have?
d.
Considering the Aggie Core Value of Respect, what is one thing you’ll take with you moving forward into your experience at Texas A&M from this activity?
2.
What’s In A Name? Activity
a.
DG Leaders will facilitate the following questions within the DG.
i.
What is your name?
ii.
Feel free to share the origin of your name or what meaning your name has for you?
b.
DG Leaders will also answer the questions.
Purpose of the Activity: Stand Up Sit Down is an activity meant to illustrate the individual differences and similarities among freshman participants within each camp. By standing for the statements on behalf of another participant in the room, students will be able to take note of what statements they would have stood for and which ones they would not have. In this Discussion Group, counselors will ask reflection questions to help students make connections with one another and identify areas where they were surprised people stood up or not and how they connect the activity to the Aggie Core Value of Respect. What’s in A Name? Activity is meant to explore the purpose and meaning behind each freshman participant's name with the intent of learning about one another’s background. By listening to answers and reasonings behind each of their names, freshman participants will be able to listen to their peers as well as vocalize their own identities and meanings behind their name. Supplies Needed:

None
Physical Risks:
Are there dangers of slips/trips/falls? Yes/No
Will potentially dangerous objects be used?
Yes/
No
Could injury happen from personal contact?
Yes/
No
Are there any additional potential risks?
Yes/
No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
Risk:
DG freshmen have the possibility of falling while getting up and down out of their seats. Mitigation: DG Leaders will remind freshmen to be careful before making any movements.
Reputation Risks:
Does this activity misrepresent or poorly represent
FC and TAMU’s M&V?
Yes/
No
Is there any way your freshmen might misinterpret
the purpose of this activity?
Yes/No
Will this activity compromise the reputation of any participants?
Yes/No
Are there any additional potential risks?
Yes/
No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
Risk: Freshmen may interpret the activity negatively as it highlights the differences between one another, and take the activity as a notion that they will not fit into the Aggie Family
Mitigation: During the activity, the purpose is to both highlight similarities and differences and is said in the script. At the start of DG time, DG Leaders will re-emphasize that despite any number of similarities or differences, all the freshmen are a part of the Aggie Family.
Risk: As freshmen are participating in the discussion, there is a chance that something inappropriate will be shared.
Mitigation: Before the discussion, DG Leaders will remind freshmen to keep answers and responses appropriate.
Emotional Risks:
Could the subject matter emotionally compromise a participant?
Yes/No
Could this activity be seen as controversial or reinforcing a negative stereotype?
Yes/No
Does this activity involve race, gender identity, or any other topic that could be controversial?
Yes/No
Are there any additional potential risks?
Yes/
No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
Risk: During the discussion, participants will be asked if they felt uncomfortable at any point raising their hands or participating in the activity. The question could potentially trigger an emotional response and emotionally compromise the student.
Mitigation: DG Leaders will re-emphasize before the discussion they can share if they want to, and restate the challenge by choice mentality. If a participant does respond and becomes emotionally compromised, one of the 2 DG Leaders will step away with the participant while the other DG Leader continues the DG time activities.
Risk:
As participants answer discussion questions, the stereotype that Texas A&M is made up of all the same kind of people may arise.
Mitigation: DG Leaders will respond by stating the fact that A&M is home to diverse and unique people, and share something unique about themselves.
Risk: During discussion, with the questions in the activity itself, participants could bring up controversial topics that may start an arguement/create an environment that is not comfortable, positive, or appropriate for Fish Camp.
Mitigation: DG Leaders will be able to recognize when the direction
of the conversation has been led astray, and redirect the discussion to the discussion questions.
Risk: During the “What’s in a Name?” activity, participants may have a more emotionally charged origin to their name and participants could have an emotional response.
Mitigation: DG Leaders will restate the challenge by choice mentality before this activity so freshmen do not have to share if they would prefer not to. DG Leaders will also be prepared to step away with a participant and 1 DG Leader will lead the rest of the discussion questions.
Facilities Risks:
Is there a possibility of the facility accruing any damage?
Yes/No
Will the facility need cleaning after the DG completion?
Yes/
No
Are there any additional potential risks?
Yes/
No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
Risk:
Before DG time, freshmen will be forming circles using their chairs. There is a risk of scuffing and scratching floors during this time.
Mitigation: We will remind freshmen to pick up the chairs before moving them.
Financial:
Will any costs hurt the organization?

No
Will any costs hurt the counselors?
Yes/
No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
Fish Camp 2022 DG Activity Template
Activity Name: Aggie Spirit Web
Activity Description: DGs gather sitting down or standing in a circle with one person holding
onto a ball of string or yarn. The first person holds onto one end, shares a fact about themselves (family, high school experience, something they’re looking forward to in college, something they’re afraid of, etc.), and then tosses the ball of string to someone else in the circle. The next person then shares something about themselves, holds onto the string, and then tosses it again. This continues until a complex web connects the whole DG. If a DG does this activity towards the end of camp, they can also share things that they appreciate about a person before tossing the ball of yarn to them.
Purpose of Activities (In this section, include how the activity is inclusive and appropriate for DG Time, how it relates to the Lakeview Learning Outcomes, what you want freshmen to take from the activity, and how the Fish Camp Mission and Values are exemplified as the foundation for planning the activity.) This activity promotes respect and loyalty because as the web gets thicker, DG members begin to learn more about each other and appreciate the differences between each other.

If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
Participants could lose balance while tossing or reaching to catch the ball of string. To mitigate this issue, counselors should monitor the activity and remind students to be aware of their surroundings. We
will also make sure the freshmen don’t throw the ball of yarn/string too hard by stating to throw it lightly.
Reputation Risks:
Does this activity misrepresent or poorly represent
FC and TAMU’s M&V?

Is there any way your freshmen might misinterpret
the purpose of this activity?

Will this activity compromise the reputation of any participants?
Yes/No
Are there any additional potential risks?
Yes/
No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
If freshmen share something about themselves that might be controversial or too personal, it might compromise their reputation. To mitigate this, counselors will state that Fish Camp is a judgement-
free zone and that the core values will be upheld at all times by all participants and staff.
Emotional Risks:
Could the subject matter emotionally compromise a participant?
Yes / No
Could this activity be seen as controversial or reinforcing a negative stereotype?
Yes / No
Does this activity involve race, gender identity, or any other topic that could be controversial?
Yes / No
Are there any additional potential risks?
Yes / No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
This activity could emotionally compromise someone if
they are pressured to share personal emotional information that might bring up uncomfortable memories. To mitigate this issue, counselors will state that freshmen don’t need to share anything that makes them uncomfortable or unsafe. A freshman could perhaps share something about their race, gender identity, or a controversial topic while getting to know each other, so if this is the case, counselors will remind everyone to be respectful and listen to one
another. Facilities Risks:
Is there a possibility of the facility accruing any damage?
Yes/
No
Will the facility need cleaning after the DG completion?
Yes/No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
After this activity, the facility will need to be cleaned of
string. To mitigate this issue, counselors need to either
re-wrap the string onto the ball or throw it all away.
If someone were to throw the yarn too hard and not

catch it, then it could knock something over. We will remind them to be careful throwing the yarn.
Financial:
Will any costs hurt the organization?
Yes/
No
Will any costs hurt the counselors?
Yes/No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
Counselors will be required to purchase a ball of string
or yarn prior to Fish Camp. It can be used multiple times for multiple DG’s so counselors can also split the cost with multiple DGs.

Activity Name: Snack Time
Activity Description: This activity will be snack time. We will provide the snacks, which will include a gluten free and vegan option. Campers will be allowed to discuss how their experience is thus far. Purpose of Activities (In this section, include how the activity is inclusive and appropriate for DG Time, how it relates to the Lakeview Learning Outcomes, what you want freshmen to take from the activity, and how the Fish Camp Mission and Values are exemplified as the foundation for planning the activity.) The purpose of the activity is to promote DG bonding in a relaxed and fun way. The activity is inclusive
for everyone as there are multiple snack options and everyone will have the chance to talk about their
experiences. This is a fun way to just relax and take a little break.
Supplies Needed:
Gluten free, no-nut, vegan snacks

Will this activity compromise the reputation of any participants?
Yes/No
Are there any additional potential risks?
Yes/
No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
A freshman might talk poorly about A&M or FC and misrepresent the M&V. We will remind all freshmen of the M&V of FC and listen to any concerns they might have. We will make sure that everyone keeps their discussions appropriate as well.
Freshmen might talk about something that compromises their reputation. We will remind everyone to be respectful of each other and to make sure their discussion is appropriate.
Depending on what is talked about, a freshman might become emotional. We will remind them that
they are in a safe space and welcoming environment in our DG. We will get additional help
from chairs if needed. Depending on what they decide to talk about, there might be something about race, gender identity, or something else controversial. We will remind freshmen to be respectful of each other and to keep their discussions appropriate for camp. Facilities Risks:
Is there a possibility of the facility accruing any damage?
Yes/No
Will the facility need cleaning after the DG completion?
Yes/No
Are there any additional potential risks?
Yes/
No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
If a freshman gets out of their seat there is a possibility of pushing the chair back in a way that scrapes the floor. We will remind freshmen to be careful when getting up. Since we will be having snacks, we will need to clean up afterwards. If there is trash we will pick it up or if there are crumbs we will do our best to get
everything or see if there is a broom.

The snacks will be bought by counselors so we will split the cost in half or see if other DGs want to
split/share with us. Fish Camp 2022 DG Activity Template
Activity Name: Starburst Game
Activity Description: Each person takes at least 4 starbursts (but preferably one of each color); they must answer a question about themselves. Color-code the questions (red-
greatest talent, yellow-hobby, pink- favorite food, orange - favorite memory)
Purpose of Activities (In this section, include how the activity is inclusive and appropriate for DG Time, how it relates to the Lakeview Learning Outcomes, what you want freshmen to take from the activity, and how the Fish Camp Mission and Values are exemplified as the foundation for planning the activity.) This activity allows freshmen to answer questions about themselves and learn about others in their DG in a fun way. This activity helps exemplify that not everyone will have the same answers for the questions which demonstrates that not everyone is the same and everyone comes from different backgrounds and has different interests. It can also allow freshmen in the DG to find others with similar interests. Supplies Needed: Starburst
Physical Risks:
Are there dangers of slips/trips/falls? Yes/No
Will potentially dangerous objects be used?
Yes/No
Could injury happen from personal contact?
Yes/
No
Are there any additional potential risks?
Yes/
No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
When freshmen receive starburst, there is a chance that the freshman could fall out of their chair or trip. Make sure freshmen are given starburst in an appropriate manner, such as gently handling them starburst rather than tossing.
There is a chance that the freshmen could choke on starburst or have an allergy. Ensure freshmen are warned about the choking hazards and ask about any
potential allergies beforehand. Reputation Risks:
Does this activity misrepresent or poorly represent
FC and TAMU’s M&V?
Yes/No
Is there any way your freshmen might misinterpret
the purpose of this activity?
Yes/No
Will this activity compromise the reputation of any participants?
Yes/No
Are there any additional potential risks?
Yes/
No
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
Ensure that any question asked does not poorly represent A&M or Fish Camp, keep the questions simple and fun. They may also misinterpret the purpose of Fish Camp. We will explain beforehand that the games are being used as a tool to either get to know more about one another, or have fun with one another. There is a chance that a freshman could respond to one of the questions in an inappropriate way and compromise their reputation. Ensure that questions are kept simple and explain this is a fun way to get to know each other.
A question could be answered and could emotionally compromise a participant. Make sure to let freshmen know that questions are meant to be lighthearted and just a fun way to get to know each other. Emphasizing the activity is challenge by choice. For questions that could seem controversial or reinforcing a negative stereotype, we will ask all freshmen to answer questions in a way that represents
who they are but in a way that is not hurtful to another freshman. To mitigate any question that could seem controversial, we will emphasize that these activities are meant to learn about each other and ensure questions asked are straightforward.
Freshman sitting in chairs could knock over chairs and could potentially scuff the ground. Warn freshmen to be careful with chairs. There might be starburst wrappers, so we will ensure wrappers are cleaned up after activity by telling them to throw away their trash as well as the counselors checking over the area in case the freshmen didn’t pick
up everything.
Financial:
Will any costs hurt the organization?
Yes/
No
Will any costs hurt the counselors?
If you answered Yes
to any of these questions, what is your plan to mitigate and respond to the risks associated?
Counselors will need to purchase starbursts, so
Yes/No
they will either split the cost between each other or
with another DG that is doing the same activity.

You were asked to answer the following question:
Consider a small photography studio with 8 workers and 5 printers. The total cost of labor and capital is $3,300. In order to reduce total operating costs, the
owner leases 5 additional printers and fires 5 workers. After these changes, the salary of each worker increases by $30, the cost of using each of the printers (both
new and old) remains constant, and the total cost of labor and capital decreases to $2,950. What is the cost of using one printer?
The following answer is correct:
First, calculate the new total quantities of workers and printers after the changes were made.
New quantity of workers= 8-5= 3 workers
New quantity of printers = 5 + 5 = 10 printers
Assume that C,…
