FIN8200: Assignment #4 – Asset Allocation For this assignment, you will be doing an analysis of Jim and Pam’s Asset Allocation. To assist in completing this analysis, you will need to reflect on your solutions for the first two exercises (Goals, Cash Flow and Net Worth). You will also need to refer to the FP Canada Guidelines 2023. Part 1: Asset Allocation Analysis (9 marks) a) What would Jim’s Asset Mix be based on his current investments? What would Pam’s Asset Mix be based on her current investments? Show your calculation and present the result in a pie chart. Do the same for their jointly owned investments and comment on the in-trust account (tax implications?). b) Based on this Asset Mix, what would be the expected rate of return of each of their overall portfolios? Use FP Canada Guidelines 2023 to calculate the return. Show how you calculated this return. c) Would you recommend a different Asset Mix for Jim and Pam? Use FP Canada Guidelines 2023 to calculate the return on your proposed portfolio and show how you calculated it. Part 2: Pulling it All Together (3 marks) Prepare a report (1 page maximum) for the Halperts that summarizes: Their current asset allocation and expected rate of return. Your recommended Asset Mix, in general, for both. Do you need more information before a final recommendation? Do the goal(s) linked to a given investment impact the asset mix recommendation? Be specific about which goals and why you chose a certain asset mix based on an investment objective (Hint: Review Client Objectives and Goals in Chapter 5).
